    Road Trip Tool Kit

When I take one of my hot rods on a road trip I usually grab a handful of combination wrenches, sockets, screw drivers and a pair of pliars and toss em in a canvas bag to take with me. Seems like I never take the one thing I need. As a result, I have a few spare cheapo wrenches and circuit...

    Sun engine analyzer

I recently acquired a Sun MCS 4000 engine analyzer. So far it is really cool looking garage art, about as useful as the ROUTE 66 sign hanging on the wall but I would like to put it to use. The only documentation I got with it is about a 10 page "quick reference manual" which references an owner...

Bendpak or Challenger lift. Which would you pick?

I bought a Challenger through a local dealer and am very happy with it. I went with the E10 and installed it myself with the help of some friends. After installing, I had a leak in a cylinder fitting. The dealer sent out a couple of guys to swap out the oring. About 2 mos. later it started to...

    New to Welding

I like your lead in statement, wish I had used it. Just bought my first welder (Northern Industrial mig 130) a few weeks ago and signed up for an auto body repair course at a local college. I have a feeling it's going to be like the first computer I bought. I didn't know what I was going to use...

    garage cabinets

My lower cabinets are kitchen cabinets salvaged from remodel projects with preformed formica countertops on top. I have had this setup for over 10 yrs and it works great for me, looks nice too. The base cabinets are all pressboard construction and they work fine for me. I don't think I would try...

Getting ready to pull the trigger on VCT - Quick Question

I just posted about a shifting tile problem I am having. Armstrong tile purchased at HD (I think it is called excelon). I also have noticed what appear to be permanent tire marks on white tiles where the cars are parked. Re: the shifting tiles, I used Henry's glue purchased at Lowes. I don't...

    VCT tiles shifting (again)

I've had vct on my garage floor for about 4 mos. now. I have a problem with the tiles shifting due to camber change when I lower my car from the 2 post lift. I have tried: 1. loose tiles under the tires 2. carpet squares under the tires 3. Masonite squares under the tires The slab is...

    VCT blues

Yeah, like bobscogin said. I just picked up a few pieces of short nap close weave commercial carpet. I'll try those upside down and see what happens. Bud

    VCT blues

I've had my vct floor down for about 3 months now and I have 1 major complaint. When I let my cars down from the lift or jack, as the suspension settles (independent suspension) it pushes the tiles out of place and,of course, breaks them in the process. I have tried 2 different glues (henry and...

    VCT disappointment

I used the trowel recommended by the cement as well as the tile manufacturer's. (Armstrong). Bud

    VCT disappointment

At the time the cars were parked the tiles had not been waxed/sealed. I noticed the impressions when I moved the cars to wax the floor. I've been researching floor treatments on this forum for quite a while now and haven't noticed any other complaints of this type. Am I the only one with tire...

    VCT disappointment

Noticed that after sitting unmoved for about 5 days on my new Armstrong Excelon vct floor, my 62 Vette and 72 El Camino both left tire impressions in the tile. I'm not going to commit suicide over it but I'm a little disappointed, especially since the daytime temps are running in the low 90s...

sticker shock for a 30X40 in Texas

To be completely honest, I'm not sure exactly how much I have in my new garage but, 24X34 engineered 4" slab with oversized, extra deep center beam for a 2 post lift. About $10.50 sq. ft. 4" deep concrete driveway (wire, no rebar) about $4.50 sq ft Framing 9' walls, built in place trusses...

    car parking on vct

Thinking of using carpeted bath mats to prevent tire marks on my new vct floor. Anyone know if the rubberized backing on the mats will react adversely with the tile? Bud

    My new vct floor

By the way, Armstrong, on their web site recommends NOT rolling the Excelon tiles after laying. Don't know why but they are kind of brittle when cold so if you have a floor irregularity I can see how you might crack one. Bud
