Check/Crack in 6x6 wood column supporting large glu-lam

Update for anyone interested: The Structural Engineer that did the original calculations on the building and stamped the drawings came out and took a look. He wasn't thrilled with the loss of cross sectional area. While there is additional safety factor built in (grading of lumber, as well as in...

Check/Crack in 6x6 wood column supporting large glu-lam

Plans call for graded lumber, framer I selected is well known and did a high caliber job and "should" have used graded lumber. While I would hope they would have for the $42k I paid, I'm not sure I can verify as no stamps are visible on the 2 outside facing surfaces. Probably more trouble than...

Check/Crack in 6x6 wood column supporting large glu-lam

Kinda leaning this way... Sister the length of the 6x6 (between brackets) only? Or all the way down to concrete (there is a curb) and up the side of the glue-lam?

Check/Crack in 6x6 wood column supporting large glu-lam

Hey Fellas, I wanted to get some eyes/opinions on this situation. Shop was framed in July 2020, and first noticed this in Feb 2021 (but also appears to be present in my photos from July '20 framing, but hard to make out with certainty...) A little background: Column is 6x6 doug fir #2, which...

Fast Orange Hand Cleaner poor pump design

I have the same issues with the pumice variety. I ordered a gallon of the "smooth" fast orange by accident and found the pump lasts much longer without the pumice, and still cleans pretty good.

    Has anyone tried multi-purpose ladders?

I have had a Werner MT for many years. It has come in handy, but I do have some complaints: 1) Its heavy, 2) I dont trust the locking pin when its in the extension ladder configuration, and 3) The rungs are narrow compared to most dedicated A-frame or extension ladders (my feet kill me if I'm on...

The Tool You Don't Want to Need: First Aid Kit

I use a readily available first aid kit (this for the shop, this for the car, with the car supplies packed into this bag) that have an assortment of the general stuff like alcohol wipes, bandages, gauze, cold pack, aspirin, antibiotic, and then I add: Nitrile Gloves Additional first aid tape...

    Air Pressure Regulator

Thats strange. I have two R28's in operation, and haven't had those issues. By any chance is yours the 2-125psi regulating range or 5-250psi? (The 2-125psi is made in SK...)

Square D Homeline 15amp tandem breaker

Ha, I did see that - that seller has been gradually increasing his prices. And believe it or not has sold at least one at 599.I was just thinking to myself I should have ordered even more extras than I did.

Square D Homeline 15amp tandem breaker

eBay is your best bet - I had to do the same for my project (get extras!). I also have an odd application that requires a quad 30A (HOMT230230). Ordered it from an electrical supply house 3 months ago and still waiting for it.

    Air Pressure Regulator

I have been pretty happy with Wilkerson. I'm running an R28 3/4" regulator along with their FM28 filtration (aluminum bowls, auto drains) on my 7.5 horse 80 gallon. They are reasonably priced on mcmaster, and mine were "made in USA" (but I'm sure "from global components").

I like Super Met-Al with the metal pin tips. Got a few from them at a trade show years ago and still use them. I think you can get them on amazon or at grainger.

Installing door: Possible to re-route condensate & water heater drain? Pump?

In regards to the water heater TPR discharge pipe: The water heater is already elevated quite a bit but I have some room between the top of the water heater and ceiling height (see pics)... Can I raise the discharge pipe (or elevate the whole water heater) a bit? This would probably give me...
