Hey folks, my Speedaire air pressure regulator died. I have a 80gal., 5hp, 2 stage compressor and I need a replacement for the regulator. What is everyone using and how is it holding up? I'd say I'm an above average user (I do some automotive body work/painting, fabricating and sandblasting). Suggestions

After having several failures with locally available regulators I started using Coilhose Pneumatic regulators about 5 or 6 years ago and have been really happy with them.

What is available in your area? What is being used in your local shops?
There is no need to re-invent the wheel.

I have a few Campbell Hausfeld units that have worked for me. I've done a little painting and they worked fine.

I bought a small Masterforce one, it got replaced after the first use

I have been pretty happy with Wilkerson. I'm running an R28 3/4" regulator along with their FM28 filtration (aluminum bowls, auto drains) on my 7.5 horse 80 gallon. They are reasonably priced on mcmaster, and mine were "made in USA" (but I'm sure "from global components").

That's what my brother specs at the plant (they have about 150 CNC mills. For a while it was the most CNC mills under 1 roof in the US)

SMC has a tremendous business in automotive manufacturing. I would try for good-used, its not really a part that wears out very quickly. There's a whole lineup of "industrial" suppliers, Aro, Numatics, Wilkerson, Festo, SMC, Speedaire, I-R, and I'm probably only at 30% of the total list there.

I'd take an "industrial name brand offering, used" 10 times out of 10 over some no-name thing that's cheap on Amazon.

What's your secret? I had miserably bad luck with my R28. The too-coarse thread on a miniscule 1/4" adjustment screw galled to the aluminum nut in just a few weeks, and even before that the thread pitch made it way too hard to adjust. I've been using an Arrow Pneumatics T-handle regulator ever since and the build quality seems much, much better.

Thats strange. I have two R28's in operation, and haven't had those issues. By any chance is yours the 2-125psi regulating range or 5-250psi? (The 2-125psi is made in SK...)

I went with the most expeditious route and bought another Speed-Aire. We'll see if this on lasts more than the two years the last one did.

ASCO, Norgren, Wilkerson, ARO, SMC, Festo, Fisher, Numatics.....I've worked with pretty much all of the industrial brands, none of them seem to perform any better than the other. Personally I'm partial to Norgren, because their customer support is really good.

Do not replace it. Don't use one and see how much better everything works.
