    Some basic drywall questions...

Buy a drywall lift. I drywalled my 30x40 by myself at night with 5/8" drywall sheets. A ****** drywall lift is like $130 brand new. I have made that multiple times over by renting it to friends for a case of beer for their weekend projects.

    Drywall screw length

Screw pops have nothing to do with screw length, its from when you drive a screw in too far and crack the board or tear out the paper, then when the wall moves it causes the board to move past the screw because the screw isnt holding anything letting the board flex. The screw doesnt move, its...

    Metal lathe

I was recently in the market for a lathe and talked to the guy with the student 6 in palmyra. His bottom dollar is $1000 but the motor is dead, it surges on the highest speed, and it makes a wierd thump when you turn it on, like there is alot of play in the gears or something before the spindle...

    Drywall questions

Just about finished with the first coat of drywall mud and tape. I'm no expert for sure on this. I've been using hot mud and tape and have been following tips so I put it thin so as to not have to do alot of sanding. Already from what I can tell the walls look pretty flat. I'm thinking I...

    Pioneer pole building reviews

I had my pole barn built in 2017. I found that Pioneer was higher than local amish builders. The basic building is bad price wise but if you add options their price skyrockets, like 1ft gable vents all around and attic trusses. I went local and my 30x40 with 11/12 attic trusses with...

Can mild steel be welded to REAL wrought iron? photos

Wrought is hard to find, I get most of mine from magnet fishing the streams around here. I think it generally goes for a couple of bucks a pound. Forge welding mild steel isnt hard, higher carbon steel is easier though. Some alloys dont forge weld well to themselves like 5160 but mild is easy...

Can mild steel be welded to REAL wrought iron? photos

That is the easiest forge weld ever... Wrought forge welds like butter. If you were closer I would say come over with a case of beer. There has to be a reputable blacksmith close to where you live. Try the ABANA website.

    Static 3 phase converter wiring

So I was given this 3 Phase Static Converter. I tried contacting the company that made them but apparently it was a 1 guy operation and he retired. I'm assuming that the ground from both my main panel and the motor connect to the ground screw underneath the open hole on the left. Also then...

Delta Model 9 Horizontal Bandsaw, downfeed cylinder help

So I bought this bandsaw at an auction for $225. It looks to be fairly complete and in good working order besides the blade being trashed. It even came with the original instruction manual and inspectors card. I plugged it in and the motor runs and the blade turns the only problem is that...

My fix for putting lights on a pole barn

The holes were chamfered sothere are no sharp edges and then painted. Is a bushing in the hole really required by code? is there some concern that the metal will rub through the romex and then through the wire insulation and then short out?
