Looking for a nice pair of calipers

I have worked in manufacturing quality as a Quality Engineer for 25 years and I wouldn't buy anything but Mitutoyo. They have excellent accuracy, durability and ease of use. I have used all the others like Starrett, Brown & Sharpe and several others, but pefer Mitutoyo by far. Digital...

Adorn your garage with...a used tire?

The rae teams go through 12 sets or so each weekend, so these tires are relatively common.

    Windshield lifting vacuum suction cups

I worked in the OE auto glass industry for many years and the cups that we used were the Veribor brand from Germany. The glass does need to be very clean.

    Craftsman stainless/lifetime ratchet

I have that same 1/2 drive ratchet and have been using it regularly for 20 years or so. I really like it a lot and it suits my needs. I am not a pro, but maintain all my own vehicles and that is the only 1/2" I own. I also had a 1/4" at one time, but it broke many years ago and was replaced...

Company won't let him get his toolbox..

A similar situation happened at a privately owned prototype fabrication shop where I used to work. This was the kind of place that would treat you very well if you worked hard and did your job well. We even had unlimited overtime ( up to 24 hrs. per day!) anytime we wanted it and for any reason...

    Why not employer provided tools?

I worked for a prototype automotive fabricating job shop in the 80's (made parts, not entire cars) and we had to supply our own tools. However, the company would purchase them on their account, pay 20% of the cost up front and then deduct payments out of our checks with no interest. Not only...

    Looking to buy Dial Indicator.......HELP!!!

I have worked in QC for the last 25 years. For mechanical dial indicators, I personally prefer Brown & Sharpe. For calipers ,micrometers, and digital indicators I prefer Mitutoyo. Starrett makes some great stuff, but some of it is priced way too high. IMO, the ones I listed above are better...

Why the Bad Rap on Gearless or 0 Degree Ratchets?

I have one that is not reversible (Radian brand?) and has the push through square drive when you need to reverse. It looks just like #8 in the picture The ratchet works fine, but a couple times the non reverse design has caused me a problem. I managed to manuever the ratchet in a place where I...

    Making offers on eBay

The only thing that might make sense it that the buyer thought the BIN was fair, and didn't want to submit a best offer and risk losing the item to someone else in the meantime.

When do you oil your air tools

Before putting the tool away, I add some oil to the air fitting & run the tool for a few seconds in both directions (if reversible)

    Stainless Craftsman Jackpot

I use that SS 1/2" ratchet all the time as my main daily use ratchet. I'm just a casual auto hobbiest maintaining my own vehicles, but I really like it a lot.

    Car Ramps

I would be nervous as hell driving up 4 ramps at the same time.

    Car Ramps

I have a nice set of steel ramps that I have had for 15 years or so. They are 2 piece with the ramp section detachable. I don't get them out very often, but I like being able to remove the ramp portion for better access once the car is up.
