Those are crazy sockets. They sure look bulky and not very durable. I can see why they did not last.

Wow those must be very rare. Never seen them before.
At first I thought the nut drivers were Companion brand.

That guy should be a member on here.

I wonder how many people driving the price up think that the sockets are stainless also?

I would expect that people with that kind of money to buy collector tools probably know what they are buying. You don't just wake up and say, that looks cool and drop $500 bucks on some tools. Granted, some guy locally was heartbroken when the cops told him that his online girlfriend was not real... after he sent her $200K over two years. I guess he could be a tool collector also.

I use that SS 1/2" ratchet all the time as my main daily use ratchet. I'm just a casual auto hobbiest maintaining my own vehicles, but I really like it a lot.

Those look like cool ratchets, but not that damn cool.
Vintage? These are from late 80's early 90's.
Vintage? Lately that word just seems to describe old and ****** on a lot of old worthless junk that these people are trying to squeeze a buck out of. Hipsters eat it up.
I'm not saying these tools are junk. But, you know damn well, them shits ain't worth it.

I have 4 or 5 of those ratchets and actually like them. The heads on them are rather on the large side although very thin in thickness. I read somewhere that they turned out to be not so durable but then that could have been just one persons opinion.

I had a 3/8" stainless ratchet, stripped the gear and didnt feel like going and getting a cheesy raised panel one for warranty so it sits in my garage in a junk box. I wasnt impressed, it reminded me of a proto ratchet with how wide the head is, and personally I HATE PROTO RATCHETS, not because I think they arent tough enough, but I hate that shape. I wouldnt mind having an old plomb version though for my vintage collection.

I can't say I have a love affair with Proto Ratchets either. They made that same ugly design literally for years and years and I imagine only changed it for the sake of staying current with the competition who were leaving them behind.

Who made these for Craftsman?
They don't look anything like the standard EASCO ratchets of that time. But that doesn't really mean anything - EASCO still could have made them.

I had the 1/2" in the late 80s if I remember correctly; it broke quickly and they traded me for something else... the sockets (to my knowledge) were the same as the typical ones but had a plastic band on them with the size on it... I didn't quite the point back then or now. They are rare but the prices people are paying for them is strange to me... if you have some; looks like you should sell them on ebay! :)
Can someone post the patent # on the ratchet? Maybe we can find out who the OEM was for these rare but not durable ratchets! :)

I think that Proto built that pattern ratchet for close to 50 years.
