What makes Craftsman hand tools Inferior?

They are OK for what they are. But be warned buying them only make sense when they are on sale - which is often. If you pay full price for Craftsman stuff, you are throwing money away.

How many of you guys fix your own tires?

Where I live, you pay with your soul... I live in a very urban area. I could go to a shop, wait 30min - 2 hours, brush elbows with "huddled masses yearning to be free," only to get the lowest shop helper on the totem pole to patch my tire. Or, I could just get some pliers and plug the whole...

Ball Peen Hammers. You use them for....?

Shaping metal. A carpenter's hammer is for wood only. Isn't the metal composition different for different hammers?

Why Metal Portable Toolbox over Plastic, or a Toolbag?

When I lived in an apartment, I always used plastic tool boxes because they were cheap. They all got parts broken off - corners or sides and I'm not really that tough on them. Granted these were mostly Stanley once I got at Target. I use metal ones now. They will bend or dent where a plastic...

Help ME Assemble my first "Adult Toolbox"... Lots of questions inside...

Re: Help ME Assemble my first "Adult Toolbox"... Lots of questions inside... I don't know if it's a good idea to go out and buy all your tools at once. If you do you might end up with a bunch of stuff you'll never use. That stuff might get stolen from you or become obsolete when newer models...

    Observations on screwdrivers

Craftsman screwdrivers are everywhere. They are cheap enough that you won't feel bad about using them as pry bars, chisels, or picks. Based on that, I say they are number one!

    SBD's plans for Craftsman

Hopefully it's not too late for CM. Younger guys (under 40) don't really have the attachment (and broken hearts) that us older guys have for Craftsman. Younger guys DIY's types are already die hard (lol) Harbor Freight customers or big box customers. But bringing CM back to Made in America...

    Tool Philosophy - Starting Out

The biggest mistake I see is new mechanics mortgaging their future buying ridiculously expensive tools. Are you trying to build a beautiful collection of high dollar tools? Or, are you trying to make a living? Even Harbor Freight tools are fully adequate. And, even Snap On tools fail.

Best tool you've ever found in the street

I never found a tool in the street. I did come close last year. I was driving home through suburbia and saw a big red pipe wrench in the street. But, I looked up ahead and a plumbing truck had had a fender bender with a Toyota Camry.

Opinions wanted on a second set of tools

I say go with cheap tools. HF tools work just fine. And don't worry about those Chinese workers - they are a thrifty, diligent bunch. After all, the good 'ole USA owes China tons of dough. Now I can tell that for you "tools" are more than just "tools." How about all the money you make/save...

    Why buy non impact sockets?

Dude, that's the first piece of objective data I've seen here in a LONG time. Thank You.

    Craftsman bashing

Craftsman was the Harbor Freight of it's day. Craftsman never made any tools - it's like Kirkland and Costco - they just had suppliers stamp Craftsman on their products. Over the years Craftsman sough Chinese makers to bring costs down since Craftsman was always VERY inexpensive. Their...

Safety reminder for you auto guys that use lifts..

They look like Europeans. The guy in the overalls and the other mechanic were flattened. I guess those signs telling customers to say out of the work area make sense.
