    The VISES of Garage Journal

No clear just oil. I am going to see if this works out, if I get some surface rust then I will rethink as clear coating would be my other option. Yours looks to be in nice shape!

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Here are a few pics of a 55 pound 4 inch unit, almost 10" high. Anyone want to take a wag at the date of manufacture? I suppose a decent deal at $50?

Help needed rebuilding Athol 624 Vise

Help needed rebuilding Athol 624 Vise | Finished! So the wife suggested we use bread ties, this worked, and we also used some small beaded zip ties on the spring. Thinking about leaving in the natural finish and wiping it down with oil every now and then. Thank you for all the help and I hope...

Help needed rebuilding Athol 624 Vise

Wow, you guys are amazing! This is exactly where I am. Spacers and the spring on but needing the spring compressed. Great pictures too. I chose to leave the swivel base on as it is moving smoothly, a fight for another day I suppose. Got this old guy cleaned up, paint stripped and...

Help needed rebuilding Athol 624 Vise

OK, I think I understand. I have re-assembled the washers and the spring on the lead screw, is this correctly installed? The retainer/keeper seemed to still be there, it is just now the length of the diameter of the bar now, I suppose I sheared the ends off taking it apart unless each side...

Help needed rebuilding Athol 624 Vise

Yes, thank you. I see the screw now but it is not budging with layers of yellow paint over the original red. I scraped most of the paint out. I will soak over night with PB Blaster in hopes it will penetrate. Now does anyone remember how the 2 washers and the spring go back in? :confused...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Here is a little 3 1/2" Craftsman with the same early 60's vintage Craftsman toolbox. Got the toolbox when my Grandfather pass away over 30 years ago and got the vise from a good friend a few days ago. The tools box has been everywhere, an everyday user, and the vise was disassembled, cleaned...

    Craftsman/Columbian anti-reversal ring reinstallation?

It is the commom red Craftsman unit made by Columbian, with 3 1/2 inch jaws. On the main screw there is one split ring washer that holds the screw in position. It has to be opened up some to remove the leadscrew. I borrowed a picture from another post but the reinstall was not posted that...

    Craftsman/Columbian anti-reversal ring reinstallation?

I am sorry if this has been hit before but I could not find the solution in a search. I am trying to get the crimped split ring back on a vise, smaller 506 unit, after a clean up/lubing. Not much room to work with the slide bar in the way. Anyone have any hints or tricks to re-closing this...
