    The VISES of Garage Journal

Cool Find on Craigslist I'm not in the market for this at the moment but thought this was very interesting. Thought I'd share it here. https://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/tls/d/old-anvil-vise/6270392950.html

    Best workbench

Very clever retractable caster design! I will definitely keep this in mind.

Sidewall crack, can I get another 2000 miles out of it?

Here's what I got trying to get by on dry rotted tires. At 55 MPH on a two lane blacktop. VERY lucky to have kept the truck under enough control to pull over. Needed a change of shorts afterward though.

How big of a wench should I buy?

 So the OP gets hammered for the wench faux pas but the guy with the "***-along" gets a free pass? I'm disappointed...

    Gas Chamber for Mice

OK. Point well taken. I guess I'll go with traps. Although a cat would probably do the job well, I've got enough pets right now. Thanks for all the replies, some of them were really funny!

    Gas Chamber for Mice

I've recently found out that I have a mouse problem in my (DETACHED) garage and my daughter suspects that she might have mice in her car. I came up with a simple idea to solve the problem but want to run it by you guys before I do something potentially stupid. My idea is to start my old truck...

    Under Cabinet Lighting

Here it is with the lights installed. I ended up with two under the cabinet and one mounted to the underside of a stair tread to light up my drill press area which was too dark before. They're nice & bright, super easy to install and inexpensive.

Fed Up with lazy no show contractors

My area is lousy with contractors and subs who don't show up or call. After years of observing this and wondering why they act like this, I've come up with a theory. I think a lot of these guys are in business for themselves because they were too unreliable and their work was too shoddy to hold...

    Under Cabinet Lighting

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I went to Home Depot's website and ordered three 18" linkable under cabinet fixtures for brightness, price and ease of installation. I'll post an updated pic after I get them installed...

    Under Cabinet Lighting

First, let me say Happy New Year to everyone at Garage Journal! So, I built a storage cabinet for above my workbench and I'd like to install under cabinet lights to help illuminate the work area. I would like ones that "daisy-chain" together (with one plug), are low profile and very bright. If...

Sticker Shock - Boiler for Radiant Heat

OK, so after all this, I have decided to go with a Reznor 75,000 BTU hanging unit heater with a sealed combustion chamber. I could have gotten the Modine Hot Dawg in the same size for a couple hundred less, but the contractor said the Reznor is much quieter. It should be installed in about 2...

Very nice! What's the countertop material / finish?

    Lets see your workbench

I did build the box on top of the bench for my measuring and layout tools. I'll post some pictures of the bench drawers sometime tomorrow or this weekend (at work right now). One bit of advice I can give (from learning the hard way): Don't buy cheap - no name drawer slides. They **** and I'll...
