Do I need a ground pin?

So why is this (--NOT-- BEING A SMART ***!! A GENUINE QUESTION) not O.K. anymore? What has changed to deem this practice unsafe? I am asking because my house, built in 1977 is wired that way and when the shop was wired they ran the 2 hots, and also a neutral wire & ground wire COMBINED at the...

Insulation WET when heating the shop.

^ got it, so If I remove the barrier from the metal siding side what keeps the insulation from gettin wet with the condensation transfering from the outside of the siding to the inside? I had my insulation freezing to the siding at my old house when I had just insulation, a vapor barrier on the...

Insulation WET when heating the shop.

The inner vapor barrier is "liquid nails" glued to the 6X6 posts, top horizontal wall stringer, and floor, basically a 12'X14' square sheet of plastic glued all around between the posts, (I used liquid nails 'cause I got 5 cases from work free). The metal siding is that "corrugated" style so...

I bought 32 Flourescent lights, BUT....found out they are 277volts???

----You cannot use 240V for lighting in a dwelling, period. If where you intend to use them is attached to a house it is not allowed to do it by code. ---- ... Sorry I didn't mention it in the original post, These are going into my 30X36 pole building shop, It is not a part of the house, it is...

Insulation WET when heating the shop.

You seriously get 1 full gallon of water in the air for every 5 burned!?!?!? I had no idea :lol_hitti My woodstove doesn't work real good, so I run that heater almost full blast NON-STOP when I am out there and I have 3 of those tall 100 lbs. tanks (hell I am from San Diego but live in Spokane...

Why ground rods, if grounded at house panel?

Thanks, that makes sense. So when hooking up the in-ground rod, do you just add another ground wire from the ground strip in the box, out to it?? Meaning ground from the house to the ground strip in shop, then from the ground strip in the shop out to the in-ground rod. Thanks again, Ken

I bought 32 Flourescent lights, BUT....found out they are 277volts???

Thanks for all the replies guys. I am actually in Spokane, Wash. and as far as ballasts go I priced them and found the cheapest (I know cheap isn't the best) to be $13.00 at Lowes, so for me to replace them all, it would be more cost efficient to just buy the $9.00 NEW light fixtures from...

Insulation WET when heating the shop.

Thanks, I knew Propane put out "some moisture" but have no idea really how much. Also, not that it makes a difference but I typed in the wrong heater I was using... I forgot, this past year I bought a Mr. Heater: Convection Heater Model No: MH200CV. STILL a propane heater but doesn't run off...

I bought 32 Flourescent lights, BUT....found out they are 277volts???

Found 32 NICE fixtures, with triple F32T8 bulbs in them, for $3.50 each. All were in great shape, only 2 bulbs missing out of all of them, loaded up my pickup and brought them home... Hooked up a "110 whip plug" to one of them and plugged it in to start checking the bulbs to see how many were...

Insulation WET when heating the shop.

I KNOW it is summer but figured it would be easier to fix this NOW while it is warm. I have the typical pole building, metal siding, 6X6 posts 10 feet apart, with horizontal 2x6 stringers between the posts spaced on 30" centers vertically going up on 14 foot walls. The insulation consists of...

Just another FNG from the HAMB...

Been a lurker (spend most of my time on the HAMB) for a WHILE since 2007, but have never posted here, mainly 'cause I haven't had anything to offer, but since I am getting my shop situated I figured I'd better "man up"! I have a 30X36 that has 14' walls and a 20' peak, when I had the shop...

Why ground rods, if grounded at house panel?

Been a "lurker" here for a while and I searched BEFORE I posted and may have not put in the right terminalogy so I didn't get an answer. So,... My question is: If power is sourced from the house to a shop/garage say with a HOT, HOT, NEUTRAL, and GROUND. When going into the shop breaker box, why...
