Quincy 325 - worth it to downsize electric motor?

I never really thought about the power draw for running the vfd, guess I figured it would be negligible. Considering the 3hp is sufficient to run the compressor it just seems like the extra 4.5 hp isn't necessary, but you're saying the 7.5hp motor won't be pulling the full peak amperage much...

Quincy 325 - worth it to downsize electric motor?

I have read mixed opinions about that, I think one guy set up the pressure switch to be the run/stop signal for the vfd successfully? Main motivation there is I already have 3 and 5hp motors.

Quincy 325 - worth it to downsize electric motor?

I believe the 325 is recommended to have a 3-5hp electric motor, so if a 3hp motor spins it up to the same 800ish rpm, wouldn't the compressor cfm output be the same as it would with a 7.5hp motor?

Quincy 325 - worth it to downsize electric motor?

Hi guys, I'm swapping a Quincy 325 pump in place onto my Ingersoll tank which previously had a 2545E10, currently has a 7.5hp single phase 1750rpm motor. I already have 3hp and 5hp 1750rpm three phase motors I could use with a vfd, and would allow me to sell the 7.5hp 1ph motor (it's almost...

    Jacuzzi >> Parts Washer?

I was thinking maybe put a grate across the seats, making the lower half the "resevoir" for the crud to settle. Also maybe a better execution of this would be a "jet tub" more similar in shape and size to a regular bath tub. Sent from my SM-G975U using The Garage Journal mobile app

    Jacuzzi >> Parts Washer?

Just had a random thought as I scroll through the local classifieds past a free hot tub nearby. In essence it's a big fiberglass tub, with a pump, heater, and plumbed with nozzles throughout. Is this the recipe for a kickass parts washer or electrolysis tank? I wonder how the fiberglass...

How to load a heavy cabinet on trailer alone

Also I'm wondering if it would be more stable to not tilt the trailer, seems like the cabinet might rotate better on the point of contact if it were level.

How to load a heavy cabinet on trailer alone

Fridge cart = furniture dolley? Would the advantage of that be that you'd have the dolley handle to help control while tipping the cabinet?

How to load a heavy cabinet on trailer alone

Sounds good. O/T but I was a B-52 crew chief from 2006-2010  Even though 4 hours of driving will be a PITA, getting a Lyon cabinet in good shape for $180 will be worth it.

How to load a heavy cabinet on trailer alone

This is what I was thinking as well, good to know it's not too far fetched. Would it be possible to lay some kind of padding on the "hinge point" where it's being tipped on the edge of the trailer to avoid scratching the cabinet paint? My trailer has some angle iron brackets hanging off the...

How to load a heavy cabinet on trailer alone

Hey guys, While "just browsing" I "accidentally" won an auction for a pretty nice Lyon cabinet (bid was $180). It's not looking likely that I'll be able to trick any of my buddies into going with me to pick it up, as it's about a 2hr drive each way. The cabinet is currently standing...

Help - Lathe motor running backwards - no oil pressure

Nothing in particular, although I could see the need to make several identical bushings etc. With the right tooling these things can do most of the same things as an engine lathe (aside from single point threading).

Help - Lathe motor running backwards - no oil pressure

Hey Matt, I swapped the "A" and "B" legs going into the power disconnect box on the lathe and it worked! Previously I had tried swapping "A" and "C". Also my theory about the oil pump was correct, and now it's got a solid 40psi of oil pressure. The lathe is a 1940s Warner Swasey No.4 turret...

Help - Lathe motor running backwards - no oil pressure

Matt, here's a better picture. One other detail is that the starter box is for low and high speed for the motor, and the extra wires in the bottom there I believe are going to the off / low / high buttons on the machine.
