    What is this?

Do you think it could be a base to a toy Gyroscope? Something like this:

I picked up a lightly used Makita 9403 4x24 belt sander. It weighs in at 13 lbs. I have some upcoming projects for this.

    Setting up Toolboxes for Children

I give my 2 boys a basic tool every Christmas. It started out when they were young: 7 and 5 with a hammer or pair of pliers. I have kept track of what I have given them over the years so not to duplicate what I have given them in the past and have continued the tradition. One of them is in the...

    Bench grinder parts?

I had a similar issue when I re-built an old Dayton bench grinder that I picked up at a swap meet in that I had the RH spindle nut but not the LH. I was able to find the LH nut at my local mom and pop hardware store in the specialty fastener trays. The big-box stores did not have the reverse...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

It was not actually "In" the garage - but was outside. Built a plant shelf out of redwood. A simple bench that can be placed in front of the window to hold potted plants. Sealed it and helped load it up with plants.

    Bushing for bench grinder

I had a similar issue and used one of these: I had enough space to mount it on the non-threaded portion of the 5/8 shaft. I think I ordered a set from Amazon...

I picked up some new disk brake tools: the kit does both RH and LH rear calipers, along with the spacers and plates for most of the cars I work on; and some caliper hangers when changing out the rotors.

I picked up this GearWrench 120XP 3/8 Drive Flex Teardrop. Reviews were OK to mixed - It fits the needs that I have for my projects. So far - very smooth, not a lot of backdrag. I am happy with it.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Changed the oil and rotated tires on my wife's Mazda CX-5. My kid's friend came over for a visit and says "Hey - can we change the oil in my car today?" I sent him to the auto parts store with a list of materials to get for his car. Being from a different background - he had never done this...

Picked up some new Oil Filter tools this week: Lisle 63600 - Import Car Filter Wrench Tekton 12" Oil Filter Pliers Found that wife's new-to-her Mazda CX-5 oil filter is difficult to remove without some specialized tools. I have always used the 'band' style filter wrench on all my cars up to...

It is called the Gerber EAB Lite. It takes a standard utility blade (and comes with one installed) I picked this one up at Lowe's. It is all metal, liner lock on open. The clip is pretty tough - some of the reviews said that you could use it as a money clip. Me too: I get what you are saying; I...

    Hammer time!

I recently picked up a few old ball pein hammers at the swap meet for $3 each. I am in the middle of restoring them by removing the rust, new handles and generally fixing them. Here is a photo of my work-in-progress. Notes: (from Left to Right) 1. polished the rust off and re-formed the shape...

    "Let's see your Bench Grinders!"

Here are some Before/During/After shots of an old Dayton grinder that I recently picked up at the Flea Market. I am not 100% sure of the age, but I am guessing that it is between 35 - 40 years old: the base and the collars are cast aluminum, the motor housing is steel (not cast iron). When I got...
