So I know they don't technically have an expiration date, but I came across a good deal on some r19 Owens Corning faced batts. But, they're from 2005. Worth purchasing? They are still in the packaging and appear to be in really good shape.
At this point they're approaching 20 years old though...
I think this is what I am going to do.
I also spoke with a local structural engineer, who said sistering another 2x4 to the ties would be sufficient as well.
How would you (or anyone else reading this!) suggest beefing up the situation?
I’ve had a couple folks suggest just adding 2x6’s directly underneath them.
Or maybe instead, just connecting the 2x4’s to the rafters with webbings in a truss like fashion?
I've posted this a few places, and it's interesting all the differing opinions I've gotten!
