That makes a lot more sense than what I quoted.

The 760 has seen a real rise in value in the last couple of years. Really amazing action and very accurate. The 30-06 (actually developed on 1906) was one of the most successful cartridges of all time. It kicks pretty hard though.

2025 Garage Sale Thread (14th Annual)

This weekend was the Needville, TX city wide garage sale which I have been going to for the last 35 years. And it didn't disappoint! The holy grail of golf clubs is the Ping beryllium-copper irons. Very rare to find at a yard sale. So there was a pile of old clubs that I walked by, but at...

2024 Garage Sale Thread (13th Annual)

Needville, TX has a city wide yard sale twice a year. Last Saturday was the fall event. I rolled up on this one yard sale and the lady had about 10 items. One of the items was a plastic little tool box with drawers. It was full of end mills! I asked how much and she said, "make an offer."...

I haven't been able to test it since the drop. It was working when I bought it. It has a 15 amp 220V plug which i don't have at my shop. So I need to add that before I can plug it in. That's a good idea though - to inspect the heating elements. I can test continuity on the elements as the...

I was at a yard sale in my little town of Lake Jackson. There was this Blue M heat treat oven. I asked how much and the guys was like, "Make in offer." I only had $140 so i offered that. He accepted! well, the guy was "helping" me load it onto the truck and he tipped it off the damn cart it...

South Bend lathe only turns one way

The motor is a swap. Unfortunately, wiring looks original! So I got into the drum switch and wire brushed the sketchy parts. Now it’s working great! The rats nest on the back needs to be cleaned up. I have GCFI on the outlet and a 20 amp breaker so I probably don’t need the reset switch...

South Bend lathe only turns one way

This is a lathe I just picked up off of FBMP. Here's some pics of the offload. Needs a paint job, but the ways are in good shape and it turns real smooth.

South Bend lathe only turns one way

I will look for those diagrams when I go to the shop tomorrow. Thanks! In the reverse, the machine is very smooth and quiet, so I think the motor is in good working condition.

South Bend lathe only turns one way

There was a youtube video that showed a drum switch and 110v motor - single phase. I think the motor has to have 6 wires. That's probably it. Wired incorrectly. Thanks!

South Bend lathe only turns one way

This is more of a motor question than a lathe question. My South Bend 10" lathe has a 1 hp, 110V motor. When I put the drum switch in reverse, it runs fine. When I put it in forward, it just hums. If it was the start up contact, then wouldn't it hum on both forward and reverse? Any idea why...

Mag Drill Magnet Won’t Turn On

I have a couple of Hougens and this big *** Milwaukee that I can barely lift. So I saw a deal on a Black and Decker for $75. Well, why shouldn’t I have 4 mag drills!?! I tested the drill part on the garage floor, paid the man, and took it home. Come to find out, the magnet doesn’t come on! I’m...

2024 Garage Sale Thread (13th Annual)

Twice a year we have a community wide yard sale here at my sub-division. It's always good. A lot of rich people who hunt and fish and have large shops. It's held on a Saturday, but residents get first crack the night before. I roll up on this one and the lady literally has about 10 items...

2024 Garage Sale Thread (13th Annual)

This is one of those deals where it's better to be ignorant and lucky than to be smart and pass. My machining game is not strong, so I don't really need a Kurt vise, AccuRite DRO, and Mitutoyo measuring. Import is fine for what I'm doing. So I saw this Machinist vise on FBMP. It was reduced...

    The High Cost of Repair

Also, if you’ve got a crew with welders, fitters, a backhoe etc waiting on some knucklehead to find the buried pipeline, you’re not going to try and save a buck or two on some cable leads. You’re going to pay the $800, and have it hot shot to the job site. Still, it seems excessive for what...
