    FL Cracker Style Building

January of this year, I found myself in a difficult situation... of my own doing of course, but none the less had to find a way to handle it. In 2012, my wife and I purchased more land to add to the farm. and by November of 2012, had grown the small farm to 154 acres in North FL... then in...

    Plastic dip on boots

there are people out there who repair boots. I have had them re-soled, and leather re-stitched. in this quick to throw away & replace society today, many good ones have gone out of business, but if you look hard enough, you may find someone who can fix them. i would get a another piece of...

    derusting help

I would use a grinder or electric drll and wire brush to remove loose rust, and some surface rust. then use a rust remover... I use a product called OSPHO...it contains phosphoric acid. Here, a gallon costs less than $20, a quart is about $5. brush it on, it converts the rust to a stable...

    which is cheaper to build???

I agree here. You need a plan with bill of materials to do the comparison. A 16' X 24' stick built building with 2 X 6 rafters will be economical. A 48 X 64 steel building might be economical, per square foot to build/ You have to examine the details, ad determine this for your area...

30 X 50 Pole Barn Build for less than 14K

Not a whaler, It's a 1974 Sea Craft... T -tops on the boat, setting on the trailer is why i went with 12' "ceiling". You almost nailed the location.... Big Bend area of North Florida. Here's another picture of trusses.. It was easier building them on the ground, and lifting the sections in...

30 X 50 Pole Barn Build for less than 14K

The trusses were placed 10' on center. built 3 sections, with two trusses nailed together with 10', 2x6's in between at a time, then set the 10' sections in place exactly 10' apart, and nailed up ten foot 2x6's between in 3 sections. We then built a front porch that was another 10' like a...

30 X 50 Pole Barn Build for less than 14K

Here's a progressive set of photos of my shop. Pole built building, with wood trusses, and wood frame, skinned with red metal & metal roof. We built the truss sections on the ground, then lifted them up with a crane and set the pre-built sections in place. I did a lot of the work myself...

Economical Carport/Barn Comparisons Wood vs Pole vs Stick built

Could you replace the steel tubing (4' OC) with wood (4' OC), and use thicker gauge sheet metal between them? I'm thinking that you could build it for under 1200 that way.

Economical Carport/Barn Comparisons Wood vs Pole vs Stick built

How would you thrift the design to minimize cost, yet still keep a reasonably safe building? This will be an ag building, for storage.... I want it to last, yet want it economical as well.

Steel building or Wood? - seeking pros/cons

I built a 30' x 60' with 12' walls. i used wood trusses on poles set in concrete... I then poured a shallow concrete slab, and used 2 x 4's to frame the inside...painted barn-red metal for siding, and galvalume for the roof. - 1 roll up door, 2 regular doors, and lots of windows. then placed a...

Economical Carport/Barn Comparisons Wood vs Pole vs Stick built

I've found some mis-cut galvalume metal roofing that is a bit longer than i need, but is $1.00/linear foot, 3' wide. This is a cost savings i've already included. Budget of 4500 is maximum, although hoping to cut that in half... I've located an 18 x 21 versatube & painted metal building for...

    Stick, Pole, or steel?

if finished properly with sheetrock, or other inside finish to cover the frame, one may not initially notice the difference.

Place the clear panels on the roof, and it could double a greenhouse in one bay, carport on the other!
