Got that swim platform all wrapped up. I made a quick and dirty passivation brush using my TIG machine as a power source, which worked great to erase all the pretty rainbows. Getting this thing caulked and mounted to the hull was almost more work than building it.

Couldn't remember the last time I had my machine set to AC, had to burn a rod of al-yoo-minnie-um to knock the rust off.

Fisher has about 10 different plans-built biplane models, I'm not entirely sure what the difference is, but I think the Celebrity is more on the 'real airplane' end of the spectrum, in that it's a little heavier, a little bigger, and typically has a Lycoming or Continental in the nose, rather...

That's the least of it - my wings are fabric and spruce. I was cruising along at 2500' MSL and passed by a few soaring hawks and a flock of little white birds beneath me, then started thinking about the implications of a bird strike in cruise. :scared:

It was weird to get into something that doesn't even have an attitude indicator, after my most recent 30 logbook hours being simulated and actual Instrument training. "It's an entirely different kind of flying, all together!"

On Saturday morning, I finished welding out the swim platform frame for that boat. Got a few ugly beads in there, I **** at welding out of position and this assembly had plenty of tricky spots to access. Now I think I might make a DIY passivation machine with a parts washing brush and a...

Milwaukee Hole Dozer, low RPMs, some cutting wax, and a resigned acceptance that the tool life will be drastically reduced no matter what I do.

Held one end in the vise, heated the center with a rosebud torch, twisted the other end with a wrench, then trimmed and ground to length.

Never been out there before, we just made the trip to retrieve this boat. We put it in the water in New Bern, then stopped near Hickory to rendezvous with the previous owner, who had operated the boat much longer than its most recent owner. We put it in a lake there and douched out all the...

A few years ago, he asked if I could modify my 4-place wedge car hauler trailer to carry a bunch of rail cars. I don't remember if he was trying to organize a run in AK or if it was something up by the Hudson Bay. I don't think he ever made it up there. I believe he's done the Cumbres &...

Working on building a stainless frame to support this teak swim platform salvaged from another boat. My "uncle" (my dad's cousin) bought this Bruce Roberts homebuilt trawler with the intention of completing the Great Loop within the next couple of years. I helped him retrieve it from New Bern...
