Help needed with Wilton vice rebuild

It looks like its held up quite well, depending on how long ago it was chromed. Ha...ha, yes I used the wrong spelling in the title, but I got it right in the rest of the post. I guess this one has been a bit of a viCe since I've spent too much time and money on it. Anyway, we've established...

Help needed with Wilton vice rebuild

Hey all, I bought this Wilton 1644 off eBay a while back and planned to tear it down just to clean it up and re-lube everything, polish up the chrome (yes, it's chromed) and put it into service. As a disclaimer, this is the first time I've ever torn down a vise (or owned a decent vise for...

Does finishing off a garage add value to a home?

Hey GJ, the title asks my question, really. The long version is I own a townhome with a rough-finished (drywall is up, but the tape/mud is very rough) 2-car garage. I'd like to finish it properly but I feel like I need to justify the cost as I'm only likely to stay in the home 4-5 years. It's...

    Townhouse 2-car

Sounds like it'll be a nice setup. I hear teh JRZ's are really nice, though I've never used them. I'm on AST 4100s valved by Turn in Concepts, fairly high spring rates for the Rcomps, per TiC recommendations, and they've been fabulous.

    Townhouse 2-car

Hey brum, well those who get rejected from Purdue have to go somewhere I guess. Just kidding! Thanks, the townhouse is about 1300sqft IIRC. You're right, I run ASP class. I got hooked on race tires so I bumped myself out of STU years ago. Now I run on 275/35/18 kuhmo z214 c91 "autocross...

    Townhouse 2-car

Mat Mobile, there are not drawers to worry about, but it does need to be pretty much on the edge for clearance from the bench. We'll see. Gonna tear it down before thinking about mounting.

    Townhouse 2-car

Heck ya. Just have to figure out how I'm going to bolt it down to the bench corner.... the top is 3/4" ply and the edges have 2x4 on end underneath it, so to get the vise way out onthe corner, several of the mounting holes are over the vertical 2x4s. I guess big screws with washers might work...

My new vise came in the mail! Now I just need some time to tear it down, clean, polish the chrome, lube and put it back together.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

This just arrived in the mail. A Wilton 1644 I picked up off eBay. Yes, it's chrome. I'm hoping to tear it down and polish it up over the next few days, but it'll be my first vise tear down. Anyone know where I can get a replacement swivel arm to replace the nut?
