Hey all,

I bought this Wilton 1644 off eBay a while back and planned to tear it down just to clean it up and re-lube everything, polish up the chrome (yes, it's chromed) and put it into service. As a disclaimer, this is the first time I've ever torn down a vise (or owned a decent vise for that matter). For those of you with more experience, I have a question. The piece circled in the picture (no idea what it's called) was basically just sitting somewhat loosely inside the vise for the jackscrew to screw through. There is a pin on the bottom of it (red arrow) that does fit into a hole inside the bottom of the vise body, but certainly not tightly. Is this how this thing is supposed to be? Or has it been screwed with/ damaged/ repaired poorly in the past?

Thanks!

That sho is purdy.

I foresee a lot of vises showing up at the chromers in the near future.

Who's gonna post pics of the first chromed baby bullet ?

First chrome Wilton I've ever seen. Nice and shiny . . . not sure how it will hold up to actual use.

So the question begs . . . are shiny things your VICE ??

. . . or is the Ebay Wilton 1644 actually a VISE ???

It looks like its held up quite well, depending on how long ago it was chromed.
Ha...ha, yes I used the wrong spelling in the title, but I got it right in the rest of the post. I guess this one has been a bit of a viCe since I've spent too much time and money on it.

Anyway, we've established it's chrome, but no one has a great answer for my question yet...

I spent a lot of time polishing up the chromed pieces so if anyone can help me get it back together ill post some shiny put-together pictures.

Ha, ha . . . just joshing you !!

That's going to be cool vise once you get it back together. I'm sure you now have to freshen up your bench and other garage layout to highlight the vise, which will be centerpiece for sure !! :D

There are more vise guru's like Zoomie, Autopts, Outlaw, etc who'll give you specific info on the mystery part when they chime in. Be patient.

Again ... cool VISE !!
