Finally got my work bench set up

Nice bench! Consider mounting (recessing) that right side vise so the pad is flush with the side of the benchtop. It makes clamping longer pieces (doors, rails, etc) a lot easier.

Need to make some drill press spokes to twirl the chuck up and down

I am working on a set for my mid-50''s Craftsman drill press. 3/8 threaded rod with 1/2" od aluminum tube covering and lathe turned knob (drilled and tapped for the 3/8 threaded rod). The aluminum tube will be chucked up in my lathe (or drill press if that''s what you've got) and sanded /...

    Vintage Craftsman drill press

I recently bought the same drill press http://vintagemachinery.org/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=29086 I looked through the sales catalogs and found these were sold in 1942 & 1943.

New motor for an old Craftsman drill press

 http://www.owwm.org/viewtopic.php?f=82&t=173854 I wish there was something to learn there, but I have yet to figure out what went wrong. One poster believes the centrifugal was bound up by a wire or or otherwise failed. I am not 100% behind that assertion, but probably won't know until...

New motor for an old Craftsman drill press

I'd agree the TS motor is too fast, but if you're thinking about ditching your 150 motor, I'd be game to discuss terms. And, rude of me, I forgot to say thanks for throwing that out there! I'm still in the market for a modern motor as I'm a little gun-shy right now, but I would really like to...

New motor for an old Craftsman drill press

Good info! I looked around a lot trying to determine the year, but came up empty. I didn't even find the general production dates. This one had been given a nice, liberal coat of paint at some point in the past. I had to hit the base tag with sandpaper to highlight the numbers (no way the...

New motor for an old Craftsman drill press

103.24820, King Seeley oval badge, black knobs on the feed arms. The motor with the drill press was a 115.6962, made in '55 if I'm reading the badge correctly. My assumption is that it was bought with the drill press, making it a 55-56 manufacture, but I know they were also sold separately,

New motor for an old Craftsman drill press

Good to know on the motor size. I'll measure it up tonight and see if I can figure that out. One of the biggest hang-ups so far appears to be finding a motor with the appropriate power AND a 1/2" shaft. Most everything out there seems to be 5/8". Id do that, except then I'll be left looking...

New motor for an old Craftsman drill press

Hello all, I've been refurbishing a mid-50's Craftsman drill press, and the motor rebuild went horribly wrong (details at the OWWM forum  ). No personal harm mind you, but I think I've smoked one of the coils and need to start looking for a replacement. I'm going to keep an eye out for...
