Is there anything out there like these that aren't hundreds or even thousands of dollars each? I'd like to get one or two so I don't have to one hand a 1" impact and hold a wrench until it jams against something.
I'd really love try one of these side by side with the industrial rivet guns I've been using. Astro claims the 498K has internal optimizations that make it stronger than some guns with longer barrels. I'd like to see if that's true.
If you haven't already, stock up on Ajax and Mayhew Pro...
These big riveters run perfectly fine with 3/8" lines as long as you use high flow couplers or jump up to 3/8 industrial couplers.
I have a 3/8" whip hose on mine with a 1/2" industrial coupler because the shop I work in only uses 1/4" and 1/2" industrial couplers.
Bottom is my new US Industrial 3X riveter. Second hand but new in the box. Got it because I want to play around with solid rivets and do some sheet metal projects.
Top is my new Chicago Pneumatic 4447-RUVAB 6" riveter. 80s production but also new in box. The inner-tube grip sleeve is my...
I've actually already sent the RUTAB back so I'm only out shipping costs. Just yesterday I found a NOS 4447- RUVAB. This is the 6" stroke model so it's beans or be damned. It appears to be from the 70s but it's still new in the packaging. It might need some o-rings but it shouldn't have a worn...
I bought Proto for the warm fuzzy feeling of having a US made set of sockets. They are good but don't expect perfect chrome inside and out or flawless broaching.
I spent a day doing suspension work with the RUTAB intentionally trying things I knew my MAC wouldn't do and also just did some generalized beating on things.
22mm wheel studs: My MAC won't budge these but the RUTAB will drive them out.
Torque arm bushings: These usually need heat and a 6lb...
Air hammers are not good riveters but riveters are good air hammers. The most popular big bore air hammer on the market, the Astro 4980 and the CP717 it's based on are just clones of the CP 4447 riveter sans teasing trigger and adjustable trigger stop. There are no functional differences past that.
After reading through a lot of discussions on this forum I recently purchased a used CP447-RUTAB 7x rivet gun. Being a high end gun, and one size bigger than "Big Nasty" I was expecting a mean tool. I bought it to drive out pins and bushings and bolts on heavy trailers and while it's very nice...
