Hello, and may I introduce The Blue Meanie

From my years of experience using drill presses, 240 is faster than I like to run drills over 1/2", as well as hole saws in any material.

That's a good old drill press, but you're going to need more speed reduction than that setup to get it down slow enough for much metal work.

Painting hand tools - Does it work out?

If you keep your tools clean and dry, they won't get your hands dirty just picking them up.

Is this brass hammer wright or jh williams?

Looks shop made to me using an old punch or something for the handle that happened to have those markings.

Could have also been a fence or guide.

    In Vintage Eggbeater Drill Press

Then why are you so worried about who made the one piece?

    In Vintage Eggbeater Drill Press

Those markings are for just that single piece, not the maker of the whole thing.

Possibly a cobbled together unfinished project. Where's the downfeed? The pieces that fit on the column look to be made from barstock, not castings as you normally see on factory made drill presses.

    Buffalo Forge Drill Press

Plenty of post drills around to pick from. That's a very basic one and incomplete. Can't imagine why that big pulley would even be with it.

I've seen a few of those over the years, that handle may be a replacement. The place to find more info on those is Roger Smiths books. Did you get the Chaplin? That could have been a better plane.

    Painting Popcorn Ceiling?

With all the disclosure rules and inspections these days before you sell a house, the asbestos issue will always come up. And if you have to bring the pros in to clean it up, you'll pay big time.

    Painting Popcorn Ceiling?

Just wait until you try to sell that house. Those ceilings will seriously devalue the house and you may end up paying to have it professionally removed at big bucks price. Much smarter to deal with it yourself while you still can.

    Painting Popcorn Ceiling?

Definitely. When I removed ours, one area had been painted and it was a lot harder to get off.
