I want to go metric - anyone other Americans done this

Maybe we should do away with cars, go back to horses, throw out all those cell phones, because obviously progress is stupid. Fractions are easy, I guess that's why machinists deal in fractions, no wait, they don't!

Lift modifications Thread- Lets see them!

I don't have any pictures handy, but due to disabilities, I had to get my sub-compact tractor up to do simple things like oil changes. Unable to find any kind of affordable tractor lift, I bought a mid-height, scissor lift, and in place of putting the arms on it, I laid a well framed from...

    Storing Steel Vertically?

I store steel vertically. The only problem I've ever encountered is the ceiling height not being high enough at times.

    Driveway Camera

After our neighbor broke in the garage and stole a bunch of stuff (while he was out on bail for that, he was caught with goods in his car from 3 other robberies he just committed, and the judge let him go free on all counts, go figure) we put up an EzViz camera system. It works well as far as...

Anyone else have an ultra rare 2" drain thread on a bath tub?

Try working on double wide, AKA glorified F** Trailer, NOTHING is standard. A lot of plumbers won't even take a job to work in these stupid things. Cheap to buy, but cost twice as much over time in maintenance.

I want to go metric - anyone other Americans done this

SAE is stupid, hard to use, and should go away! Metric is far easier, and better, which is why there are only about 3 countries left in the world sticking to this antiquated system. For those who say they don't understand it, how big is the engine in your car? When you say 3.0, you just...

    Does Anybody Stick Weld Anymore?

Let's see, I'm not rich like everyone else wants to appear to be, so yes, I stick weld with a 40 year welder the vast majority of the time and use oxy/acetylene of the same age once in a while, but mostly for heating.....

    Tools That Have Hurt you

I've been hurt many times, but I can't blame a tool for what I did!

For those of you who need glasses on a daily basis, how do you protect your eyes?

Prescription safety glasses, with side shields when required. I've noticed I get more particles in my eyes when using the side shields than without, so wonder about that regulation. Also just a wondering thought I've had. Ok, safety glasses protect your eyes, but complaints of blurring...

Why aren't the manufacturing jobs coming back ?

Let's not forget part of the high cost of American made is management. In the 1950's, the average CEO was given 50 times what the average laborer earned, now that same CEO expects to be given 500 times what he pays for labor. Wanna talk greed? Look at management FIRST! No matter how much...

    Push-On Plumbing Fittings

While paying a plumber $50-$100 an hour to solder is all well and good, this 60 year old kid on disability can't afford one. Shelling out half a months income for a 5 minute repair is ridiculous. I can solder, but I'm not real great at it. Compression fittings are supposed to work, but I've...

    Thoughts on cordless impact guns

I have a Ryobi and love it. Why Ryobi? Because when I bought my first battery powered powered drill years ago, I happened to pick Ryobi 18v. So I stick with tools that take the same battery. Batteries fail long before the tool does. Pick a brand with lots of tool selections, then stick...

    Harbor freight 44" bench build

Nice job! Kinda puts my old, solid door laid across a Harbor Freight 72" box and done approach to shame.:lol::lol:

    Harbor Freight 56 Roller Cabinet

I'll agree there are more than enough of some, but I have more vice grips than that, and I still need more at times. ;)
