    BEFORE & AFTER....A Tool Polisher's Haven

One of you should make a timelapse video of restoring these tools. Awesome job!

    Quitting Early for More Productivity

This is something I do at work, it seems to work well to get me right into the thick of things in the morning when I might be less than focused.

    heat pumps

http://www.fujitsugeneral.com/wallmountedRLS2.htm I might be misunderstanding, but my father in law installs mini splits and has one in his home that we just experienced working well around ~20 degrees the other day (Maine).

How to find a good electrician Part 2

People make lots of excuses for it, but folks in trades are notoriously bad business folks. I think there is a lot of money to be made by essentially being a business management firm for home trades.

    T_R's 24x24 build

You in the gray area? Just guessing based on nature preserve and the harbor freight in SoPo being the only one I'm aware of in Maine.. :) Garage looks awesome!

    Fire safety & lightweight ceilings

Liability falls somewhere if the roof/ceiling collapses, right? :willy_nil Thanks for the image, I hadn't seen Purlin's before (hence why I'm approaching this all carefully, I'm definitely inexperienced). It definitely gives me another option, but I probably should still get the exacts figured...

    Fire safety & lightweight ceilings

Tough to say what it can support, but it definitely does not meet current code as is, so my fear is that modifying it in a permanent way would open me up to code/liability/permitting issues. I had a structural engineer come by months ago, but he was pretty awful and basically just ended up...

    Fire safety & lightweight ceilings

Hi all, I've got a 24x24 that I have recently started finishing (R15 in the walls with 1/2" drywall). I would love to finish the ceiling, but the joists would not support the weight of drywall and insulation. The only solution I've thought of would be a beam to split the distance, which would...

    Concrete

In terms of stability, I would be inclined to use some level of shoring for the inside, and fill on the outside. This is a layman's perspective BTW, it may be safe without, but I wouldn't feel good about it.

    Something just clicked…..

Scrapping anything of value? My girlfriend isn't bothered by my mild hoarding yet.. so that means I've got space for more! :D

    Vapor barrier needed in Michigan?

I'm in Maine, similar climate and usage patterns, just with drywall instead of a metal interior. I found no one can agree when it comes to this situation. I'm going without.

    Would this remove welding fumes?

I'm a welding beginner, but just yesterday I was reading up on the Lincoln Electric site and came across this article: http://www.lincolnelectric.com/en-us/support/process-and-theory/Pages/controlling-welding-fume-detail.aspx I was curious about the real risks (meaning, if I don't vent AT ALL...

    Preparation

He may have the same issue I just had. I was logged into WWW.garagejournal.com but not "garagejournal.com". The way the site tracks your login, there is a difference. The images are from "garagejournal.com", and when I copied the link into my browser, it prompted me to login. When I refreshed...

Made in USA but not marked on tool

What a silly statement. Location has nothing to do with logic. The only logical explanation someone COULD give for caring that the tool itself says it (instead of just the packaging) is resale value. Since no one has actually said that, I'm going to guess it's not the actual reasoning, and...
