Would you recommend Snap On or Ingersoll Rand 1/2 hp impact gun for my beginning technician tool box?

I agree the jack stands are overkill, but I like the idea that if they fell then he would still have 20 inches to hopefully get out. He has decided to study Automotives in college and I thought this would be a good gift, but the more I read the more confusing it becomes. Thanks for the response.
