    Great, thank you for all the help. Next question, I know the ground and neutral need to be isolated at the sub panel. Where does the ground and the neutral in the sub panel get connected at the main panel? I assume the neutral gets connected where all the other neutrals are but does the ground...

    Ahh. I'm tracking now! So SER is OK to run un-protected inside the wall cavity. I plan to drywall the garage in the future.

    That would be easier but I can't move the sub panel to be directly next to the main panel. This garage is an addition and there isn't a full bay to install the panel there. I asked the builder about siding and he wants the electrical inspected before the exterior is put up, not sure why.
