    Help with a cheap vise

So for anyone who happens upon this thread and owns the same vise, turns out, this one only uses the one washer, spring and cotter pin. I just assumed it was going to work just like the one in the picture. I went to Lowes and searched and searched to find two more washers that fit, nothing was...

    Quick question

My 06 Fusion was a mix of SAE and metric, don't remember exactly what I needed to swap out the alternator, but my guess is metric.

    Help with a cheap vise

So I have had this 5" Buffalo vise for about 10 years now. Someone gave it to me and I'm pretty sure they got it from a garage sale to begin with so I have no idea about its origin. Its made in China, nothing special but it has suited my needs just fine. In any event, as always seems to happen...

    2019 Lowe's deals/sales/clearance thread

I have been waiting for this for a long time. My Lowes still has a well stocked Kobalt section but everything list at full price. This past weekend I was helping my sister-law move and stopped into the Lowes in Orangeburg, NY 10962 and they had the same set up. Three racks full of bins of Kobalt...

    Chainsaws

I have a Husqvarna my neighbor has a Stihl, we each heat our homes with wood stoves (he bought his because he liked mine so much) and we often go out and cut wood together. My Husky cuts better than the Stihl, but the Stihl works each time every time. The Husky has given me grief from time to...

    Recommend me a splitting axe

Another vote for Fiskars. I also heat my home with a wood stove and, according to Amazon, my Fiskars has been going strong since October 8, 2012. I love that thing. I have a wedge and a sledge that I use for particularly stubborn rounds, but my guess is 80% of the wood that goes through my...

    3/8" vs 1/2" Ratchet

I have thought about this a lot. My dad reaches for a 1/2" before anything else. My assumption is that its a generational thing. He grew up and working on big old land yachts. Tons of space to move around so the size of the tool was never much of a concern to him. Now, though, he ends up walking...

    3/8" vs 1/2" Ratchet

We walk a fine line. If someone starts a new thread about a topic that has been discussed before they get hammered with "don't you know how to use the search function" and when someone searches and brings up an old thread they get grief for bringing zombie threads back to life. I forget which...

    MAC tools ratchets

I don't know about the new styles, but I just warrantied an old 1/4 flex head (low tooth count with the knurled handle) and got a brand new one as a replacement that is stamped USA. Identical to the one I sent in, which was probably 20 years old.

Do you still use a breaker bar ?

I use my 1/2 drive all the time. My longest ratchet is only 15" (maybe 18"?) either way, the breaker bar earns its keep. I just used a 3/8 drive breaker bar for the first time ever. My wife's Sienna uses a cartridge type oil filter with a reverse threaded drain plug that accepts a 3/8 drive...

    Stupid Craftsman Socket Question

I have a newer USA made Craftsman set of 3/8 deep metric sockets that use that wierd detent. Most are fine, but the 19mm will only mount on my older Craftsman raised panel ratchet. I can't get it into my Cornwell or SK ratchets. It's kinda a wierd.

    Must Have DIY Tools

I have been surprised by how useful a cheap little oscillating too has been. One of those center finding rulers is more useful than you'd expect. Also, while not uncommon, I think the difference between a good tape measure and a good one is significant and well worth the extra $10.

    Hammering off rusted rotors

Yep, if the deadblow doesn't do it and you have to break out the metal sledge your ears will ring for the rest of the brake job.

    &$^#$@ Chainsaw Won't Tune

I cut a lot of firewood and all of my saws have been second hand. This is the exact order of operations I would suggest. Fuel lines, carb, and spark arrestor have been 95% of the problems I have ran into.
