    dayid's barn

Spent some time today sorting through "stuff". Some hasn't been touched since I moved in - other bits that the former owner left behind and hadn't been touched in longer. Outside of a bit of dusting the biggest success was just putting up some simple 2x4 horizontals on one wall so I could get...

    dayid's barn

Cross-posting this from the Let's see your workbench thread - trying to actually get traction on improving (and posting): A friend of mine moved into an apartment probably 10 or 12 years ago and didn't bring this 2x4 bench with him. So I got it with the little wood clamp on it. Over the years...

    Lets see your workbench

A friend of mine moved into an apartment probably 10 or 12 years ago and didn't bring this 2x4 bench with him. So I got it with the little wood clamp on it. Over the years I've added my main little Reed 23 vise, a bike stand/vise, an old drill-press vise that I use for random other types of...

    dayid's barn

I'm dayid -- I've been around on and off for years. I maintain a little tool-shrine that is my vise wiki. Moved around from Central FL to Central TX to North GA before finally settling down and buying a place here in North GA. Been on this site nearly 10 years -- gone from very active to a year+...

    2019 Lowe's deals/sales/clearance thread

The Gerber Suspension (Item 223633) shows online as $2.62 (and was honored in store) in some locations. Regular price at Lowe's $29.95. Actual product was "Gerber Suspension NXT". https://www.lowes.com/pd/Gerber-Suspension-Multiplier/3117691

    Monarch Vise Restoration

I do not have direct experience with this vise; however, all Prentiss vices that I have recorded do have replaceable faces. However, the only 4" that I've seen which is also stamped as Monarch indeed has much different faces than yours. What is the model number?

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Matches this one - especially after you painted it: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=875071&postcount=429 - though that one does specifically state "Made in USA"

That 508 was $75 in 1926. For 2019 inflation that'd be > $1000 vise. @ 150lbs, even with the condition it is in I wouldn't be surprised to see it go for $1-2/lb Of course, the price is whatever someone is willing to pay for it :bounce:

Fox-eared mounting tabs (I think) Swivel jaw Round handle slide Tall dynamic jaw slide I'd guess a Prentiss for those characteristics - though odd that it does not appear to have any of the writing on the sides that they're known for in their casting.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

For what it's worth I'm still around - just very infrequently. The old version of my site that hadn't been maintained or updated in years I was still paying to keep up on hosting - that hosting provider forced an update that essentially hosted the MySQL database all the information was stored...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Just now catching up - that's a typo on my end. The 205 is 75lbs not 25lbs.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

No, I've not updated it in quite a while. I've got it in my plans to re-vamp it and make it easier for me to maintain so updates aren't so tedious - it just hasn't happened yet. From the change-logs it looks like -> yep -> updates went to a trickle right around when daughter #1 arrived and...

    Vintage drill Press

I've got a very similar DP220. They're great machines. The table looks like someone had no idea what they were doing more than once. That one is missing (or just never had) the lower-speed intermittent pulleys. Looks like the chuck is brand new - doesn't really match the rest of it. These are...
