    Old Barn rebuild

Got some pictures of the stump, ASO, and vise this morning and finally sitting down to post them. Stump in place with ASO and vise mounted. Closer look at the top of the ASO. Better look at the vise. And closer. Other side. End on. Jaws open. Made the spring and most of the...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Got another of my vises mounted yesterday but didn't get any pictures till this morning. This is my oldest. No name that I can find. Foot and several inches of the leg had been cut off when I got it. Welded a long bolt to the leg to get it back to the ground. Had to make the spring and most of...

    Old Barn rebuild

Only got a couple of pix today. My ASO. Made at a foundry in Anniston Alabama, about 7 miles from where I live. Still a piece of ****. Ex bought it for me about 25 years ago. I've welded all over the top surface with hard rods and ground it somewhat flat again. Works to beat on things on...

    Old Barn rebuild

Was going to work on the barn today but it's so pretty out there that I kinda got sidetracked. Been to the woods and hauled back a chunk of oak to use as a base for a couple of vises and an ASO (anvil shaped object) that I've been needing to mount to use in conjuction with the barn repair. Now...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Got a 5197 that needs a tiny bit of work. :lol_hitti Other than the rust it doesn't look too bad from the front. This one shows a bit of the problem. And here you can see what someone did to it, MANY years ago... Swivel is bolted and somewhat welded. Anvil is broken and has the strap...

    HF 240V spot welder help

I just took a look at the comments on the HF 240v spot welder. Second one down states: Didn't seem to work right out of the box. Light welds, no penetration, poor quality spots. It basically needed to be disassembled, correctly adjusted and all contact surfaces sanded and tightened together...

    HF 240V spot welder help

Have you tried welding any other kind of wire other than the paper clip? I'd try on a couple of pieces of coat hanger. Knock the paint/varnish off of the spot to be welded and see if the welder will spot them together, if so it may be that there is something in the wire you are trying to weld...

    Let's See Your FROES!

My dad made this one from an old car spring 30+ years ago. I turned the cedar handle a few years back and put it in. Reground the edge to a V rather than the chisel edge he had on it as the chisel edge didn't follow the split. Still need to take the handle out and weld the eye up but it works...

    Lets see your workbench

25x28 here. Built it in mid 80's. Got a real deal on a special order that the was prepaid and then the buyer bankrupt on so had no choice on size. Note the bends in the wall in the 3rd picture, 98 mph wind gust dropped a 80+ ft pine across it back in the early 90's. :eyecrazy: Quite a sturdy...
