    Insulation in bonus room

Picture First! This is a picture of my office above my garage. I'm currently insulating it and as you can see from the picture, I have an attic vent running along the underside of the roof on both sides from the soffit to just below the ridge vent. Where the room's roof is sloped I have...

How did I wire this incorrectly?

Got my electrician buddy to drop down ... I needed all red to one side all black to the other ... the back of the thermostat was ambiguous. It had load labeled to one side with both red and black wires coming from that side of the thermostat, and line then also had red and black wires. I needed...

How did I wire this incorrectly?

Yes, standard 240v/30amp breaker - black to one of the breakers, white to the other (wrap it with electrical black tape for the inspector to sign off on) - ground to ground bar. The thermostat is 28a.

How did I wire this incorrectly?

Also known as - how did I screw up! I don't have a picture, but here is the layout. I'm wiring a 5000 watt garage heater - 10/2 wire to the heater (30 amp double pole). Wiring to the heater: Black load to black heater wire and white load to red heater wire. Wiring to the thermostat: I have a...

Garage Truss Support for Jeep top

I've done it myself ... jeep hard top is only about 150 lbs. If a truss can't handle an extra 75 lbs, (150/2 trusses due to length) then you are probably in trouble. You can refer to (http://www.wclib.org/pdfs/simpspantbls.pdf) if you know the length of the truss to determine the live load that...

What did you do "TO" your garage today?

Don't have pictures - but built a little storage area above the workshop side of the garage - 14x8 in the attic running 5 2x8's from the outside top plate to the inside wall between the workshop & garage. According to what I can figure out with the SPF 2x8's I used I can handle a load of just a...

Yet another how much light ...

I looked at the ebay lights - but from China and area they were only CE certified, and that is not accepted in Canada. If for any reason they caused a fire I don't want an insurance company blaming the lights and disallowing a claim. As a kid we had a house fire, and while everything went...

Yet another how much light ...

Garage is 32x24 with 12' 6" ceilings I was actually thinking of getting recessed LEDs like the following (https://www.aspectled.com/collections/led-recessed-ceiling-lights/products/9-ultra-thin-recessed-light-18w#tab-1) they are 9" recessed pushing out about 1600 lumen with 120 degree beam...

    Let's See Your Garage Dog

Gracie - 4 month old Newfoundland currently about 65lb's. She chew's on everything, but for some reason is particularly fond of pieces of fiberglass insulation!! I'm constantly shooing her from the garage I'm building or taking pieces of insulation from her mouth - I've even caught her pulling...

    Slab foundation for Ontario Canada

Not in Ontario (anymore) moved back to NL ... but I am in the process of completing my garage here - currently in the insulation & wiring phase. But, I am on a solid rock ledge and couldn't afford an actual formed foundation, so I went with the engineered slab. I designed it myself, completed...

Ensure I stop any fumes to my garage bonus room

Thanks guys ... for the types of fumes - mostly it is gas & oil smells. I noticed in my last house, cookie cutter builder house with built in garage, the wife could smell the gas from the car when I was working on it - and I don't want that permeating the upstairs room. I'll give it a go with...

Ensure I stop any fumes to my garage bonus room

Hi - this is my first post, but have read here for years. My garage project is progressing ... slowly ... as I'm doing everything myself, except the slab which I had a professional pour. The garage is 32x24 (with a two post lift for my '65 Pontiac Tempest restoration project just waiting for me...
