Garage is 32x24 with 12' 6" ceilings I was actually thinking of getting recessed LEDs like the following (https://www.aspectled.com/collectio...roducts/9-ultra-thin-recessed-light-18w#tab-1) they are 9" recessed pushing out about 1600 lumen with 120 degree beam angle. I also haven't really ruled out tubes either.

My main problem, is that I live in a small town and since my selection of local lighting is pretty much non-existent I'm probably going to have to order online, deal with high shipping and duty costs if I purchase through the US (I live in Canada).

Anyway, anyone with any good ideas - I'm sort of drawing a blank myself. For my workshop, it's 14x24 with 9'6" celings and I'm putting in 9 x 6" recessed lights with task lighting above the workbenches as well.

So have at it - dazzle me with ideas - I'm lost.

I put those same lights in my attached garage, but I bought them off ebay from China for $7 each. They work great. I have 9 of the lights in a 21x21 garage with 8 foot ceilings. It's just enough for what I'm going (rc cars, dirt bikes). A few more would be better.

I picked those because of how shallow they are. Since they're about 90% the thickness of drywall, I could put them where I want. I didn't have to dodge trusses or anything. I really like them.

I looked at the ebay lights - but from China and area they were only CE certified, and that is not accepted in Canada. If for any reason they caused a fire I don't want an insurance company blaming the lights and disallowing a claim. As a kid we had a house fire, and while everything went smoothly with insurance and no one was hurt - it always is something that niggles in the back of the mind.

As for the wrong kind of light - well that's subjective - amount & colour is what's important to me. I like task lighting more than general room lighting that's why I was leaning towards recessed lights. When the car is on the lift, I'm going to be using a work lamp anyway.
