Correct,it would only have electricity at certain points of the reel.I took it apart and cleaned the contacts.Good as new. I was worried about the retract assembly coming apart when I opened it up.As long as you don't remove the silver tab in pic #3 it can't unwind itself. Thanks for the help

My Bayco extension cord reel has started to act up lately. You have to pull it out a certain amount for it to work. I'm thinking something like a clock spring is either dirty or broken. Has anyone here ever had one apart?
