What to look for in a plasma table

I’m at a place where I can consider a used plasma table. I finally have the space to allocate and enough extra currency to not be put out by a used table. I’d like to be able to run half sheets at least but can fit a bigger machine if the price is right. Since used is my plan, what are the...

Anybody know this old husky tool box?

I think some of those earlier Husky boxes were Canadian made. Definitely were heavier than current. I have a bottom from that era that is the same box Mac sold as their entry level 26” and I believe Blue Point used the same box. I’ve also seen pictures of Beach boxes that appear to be the same.

    Growing up with tools.

It’s been a few years since I thought about this thread. I always enjoyed the stories.

    British Tool Manufacturers

I was doing some shop cleaning today and found my box of Whitworth spanners. They came, along with a bunch of others, from an old European motors mechanic. Superslim, Snail, Lister, and Spearpoint. The last two look to be identical.

The Mindset: How to do high quality work

Robert Pirsig came to mind when I first read this thread. It’s been years since I read the book and I had it summarized for me recently by a relative who was following the story geographically as a “Pirsig pilgrim”. Correct me where I’m wrong, the author was in search of(obsessed with?)...

    Milwaukee M18 question

I have watched and enjoyed a few videos from this channel but I haven’t really delved into their catalog. This clip goes a long way to answer my questions and even show a few features I hadn’t thought about. If the Forge is on par with the M18 12.0 for output, I think I’ll plan on adding a few...

The Mindset: How to do high quality work

I feel like the definition of “good enough” is a stumbling block in this conversation. For me, ”good enough” is my equipment operating and completing tasks. I perform repairs to the best I can, given those parameters. I use new parts as I can, but if I’m under the gun and work is stopped, I’ve...

The Mindset: How to do high quality work

I should have specified the section about the western world going soft and the generalization about a no longer valid world view. I’m lazy and should be working. I get that things have drastically degraded over time but blaming the average person is like laying all the blame on Edward Bernays...

The Mindset: How to do high quality work

I find these views in two places in my life. One is on the internet. All of the contractors, laborers, tradesmen I deal with shoot for the intersection of quality, time, and cost. That’s not being lazy, it’s making ends meet and staying employed. I like Snap On and Milwaukee. If anyone asks me...

The Mindset: How to do high quality work

Tools, mindset, and market. I can appreciate the admonition to always watch, always improve. Seek out the best, if you can afford to, and see how they do it.

    Vintage snap-on (and other) find

That’s a really nice find. Should be some really early date codes on the Snap On tools.

    Milwaukee M18 question

I’ve been out of the tool discussion loop for a while. Is the new M18 Forge battery a game changer? I have so many batteries right now and don’t need another but I can also offload most of my current stock if the Forge is awesome enough. I have the HO 3.0 bats I use daily on grinders, mostly...

    If buying AMERICAN matters...

I’ve been left in the cold by every company I’ve supported, tools, clothing, parts, all of them. In my youth, I was adamant about USA only. After that, ABC, now, ****** it. Nothing lasts long enough for it to matter, including the money I have to spend.

Looking for thoughts on Jumbo hand tools?

Every newer catalog I can find for Cat Tools is behind a paywall. If you had a link to one, I’d like to see what they’ve added since the 2011 version I was using.

    Tekton Angle wrench set

I own and like the Capri 3/8 flex head ratchet. I’d look at their combination wrenches if I needed a set. The angle wrenches I’ve seen from them are 15/60 and that’s a non starter for me.
