Portable A/C for Garage... venting w/o window?

One more update... so I decided to watch Craigslist for a cheap used portable, rather than buying another (expensive) new one. They were hard to find during the 100 degree days, but we had a break in the heat for a week and I grabbed one for $75. I finally got around to cutting the hole in my...

Portable A/C for Garage... venting w/o window?

Just an update... I used it one day for about 3 hours. It was ~90F outside, and there were about 10 of us hanging out in the garage. The A/C seemed to keep up just fine... it was very comfortable in there. I just left the man door cracked, with an aluminum flex hose blowing the hot air...

Portable A/C for Garage... venting w/o window?

Ah... that looks really nice, thanks for posting that pic! Yeah, I was thinking about that, and noticed that the one I picked up has a port for an inlet hose, but no actual hose (so it just draws the inside air). I guess the problem is getting enough seperation that you're sucking in outside...

Portable A/C for Garage... venting w/o window?

My garage gets hot, but not usually unbearable. It's north facing, attached, and fairly insulated. My 12000 BTU heater worked REALLY well this winter, so I figured comparable cooling should work pretty well too. You're probably right, a dryer vent really wouldn't be a big deal. That's a...

Portable A/C for Garage... venting w/o window?

So... I picked up a portable A/C that I plan to use in my attached 2 car garage when I'm working out there during the summer ( http://www.sharpusa.com/ForHome/HomeEnvironment/AirConditioners/CV2P10SC.aspx ). A typical installation vents it out a window, but being a garage, I don't have any sort...

Jackshaft opener w/ narrow side clearance

Woohoo! Less than a year from thread start to finish. :) The install went smoothly, and it works great. Cutting the torsion bar was no problem, and I just cut a hole in the drywall to give me a little more room on the other side, then filled it with an old work ceiling box (to keep air drafts...

Jackshaft opener w/ narrow side clearance

Awesome... thanks for the quick reply. I'll just cut it enough to make it fit... not any less than 1" from the bearing plate. I definitely won't be unwinding any springs... never done that before, and it's probably dangerous for the inexperienced... plus both sides have too much bar sticking...

Jackshaft opener w/ narrow side clearance

I'm finally getting to this project... the 3800 arrived today, so I started looking at it and figuring out what I need to do. Quick question though... is it okay to cut off the end of the torsion bar? The manual says I need 8" between the wall and end of torsion bar... and that the torsion bar...

Assuming this is like most things I deal with that can be converted to work with various voltages... inside the pump there is a transformer. Lets say that the pump runs internally from 24V. So, to get from 120V to 24V, they have a transformer that scales the voltage down 5x (but in turn...

Nope, not knocking them... they are really fun cars... just poking fun at how light they are, compared to some of the heavy cars that many of us have. Your 78 Pro street Camaro weighs what... the same as 2 Miatas? ;) Costco looks like a good deal... Northern Tool has them for $2k w/ free...

Yeah, but that car weighs what... 45 lbs? ;) Heh, but I agree... this thing is great. I just replaced the rear brakes on my minivan last night and it had no problem lifting, holding, and lowering... and it made the job so much easier. And since the van needs all the room it can get, the pump...

Jackshaft opener w/ narrow side clearance

Interesting... I hadn't seen that one before. It looks to be a little more expensive, and I think I'd need to buy quite a few accessories for it (I don't think it comes w/ remotes, or a receiver for remotes... or even a wall button), but I'll definitely consider that. I've gotta see if my...

Nice... thanks! So really, I just need to get my hands on one of these and see what I can do with it. Pat

Yeah, I saw a couple of you guys do that... definitely a good idea, and I'll probably end up grabbing a bungee to do the same once I get sick of holding it. So far, it hasn't been a big deal to me to hold the lever while lowering though. It seems safer as I'm standing out of the way, and can...

Kevro: Thanks a ton... that's extremely helpful. I'll have to get my hands on one of these and see what I can make out of it. Thanks! Pat
