Rust penetration on siezed moving parts?

I have restored over 100 hand crank post drill presses, many of them which had sat outside for years and without a single part that moved. I use WD-40 and lots of PATIENCE. Have sprayed down drill presses every day for a month before things started to loosen up, followed by gentle hammering on...

Show us your cool, "old" drill press

Attached are some pics of my vintage post drills pre-restoration. Also attached are 2 pics of a Green River AA that I finished restoring a couple months ago. When I got it late last fall in southern Iowa (along with 19 others), nothing moves. Patience and a gallon of WD-40 got it back to...

    Square shank sockets

I have a Billings & Spencer socket set that is square drive, much like the early Plomb.

    Lets see your workbench

Unfortunately I don’t have progress pics. I had my local welding shop weld a 3 1/2 by 6’ frame out of angle, added a set of 600 lb each rubber cas casters, a four drawer tool box (without the wheels) and built the rest of from there.

Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Thought I would post some of my Plomb socket sets. The first is a one inch drive set that includes two ratchets, and I believe all but 3 1" drive sockets Plomb made (based on Alloy Artifacts website). I can put my fist in the largest (3.5") socket and includes the box that still has the Plomb...

    Lets see your workbench

Just finished a mobile work bench. 6 1/2 foot bowling alley top gives me a good work surface for restoring my over 100 vintage post drills and allows me to display 3 of my patternmaker vises -- an Oliver, Emmert and a Yost.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

You might be able to find one off another old vise. I recently cleaned an old vise up that was missing the lockdown nut handle. I took a 4 inch long x 3/16 bolt, cut off most of the threaded part, ground the head of the bolt so it was round, painted it and put a lock nut on what was left of...

    Let's see your toolbox.

Below are pics of my most recent restoration project. Vintage (I believe 1953) Montgomery Wards Master Quality boxes. The bottom I acquired at an estate sale in Pittsburgh CA, the top in Maplewood MN. They were both in rough shape. I matched the original colors as best I could with rattlers...

    it's 2013 garage sale season!...

Ok. I don't usually do this, but this weekend was a grand slam! First stop, the Champion drill press for $50 bucks, and it works perfectly. Crank it up and it will go for 45 seconds before it stops. Second stop, the like new but old Wards Powr Kraft wrench set ($5) that will go perfectly in...

    Another toolbox Resto

NIce job on the boxes. I am working on a late 40s vintage Montgomery Ward top and bottom combo made by Huot. They are nearly identical to the 40s Craftsman set you restored, except the drawer pulls are wider on the Wards boxes. I picked up the bottom box in CA and the top in MN. I will post...

WTB "Bob Cat" Truth and Walden Worcester tools

Still looking. Also looking for vintage Montgomery Ward to fill the two late 40s/early 50s Huot made Wards boxes I am restoring.

WTB "Bob Cat" Truth and Walden Worcester tools

Still looking. In addition to the Plomb and Proto, also have some old Snap-on that I would be willing to trade, including two small Snap-on tool boxes

What 2 part Epoxy to buy?

I have used the rustoleum product on several floors, each time with great results. However, I have clear coated it each time. In my humble opinion the epoxy paint makes it look good, but the clear coat epoxy makes it tough and durable. The rustoleum epoxy paint with Sherwin Williams clear...
