I plan on using 4 conductor wire (6/3 romex to be specific). But the basement panel has a 5th wire that joins the conduit section that touches the sub to the conduit section that touches the main. Seems to me a I need to do the same for the garage sub or use a ground rod. No? Overkill?
I had a subpanel professionally installed in my basement for the purposes of a future remodel some time ago. It is directly adjacent to the main. There is a ~ 1ft long second ground wire that connects the metal of the sub to the metal of the main. See upper right of pic.
