    HVAC for Retirement Shop Upgrade

you might look seriously at a heat pump, with a building that size...it's what I did 15 years ago here in Raleigh and it works just fine. spend your money on insulation. I had the building spray foamed all the way up the sides and across the roof. heat pump will handle it with proper...

    Insulating and heating a shed.

spray foam insulation all the way around...then add a refurbished PTAC ($350 approx), and all your concerns are taken care of and you will have a nice workable space. don't cheap out and complain later. get it right the first time and be done with it.

Fighting Garage Heat & Humidity in the Southeast

forget the window shaker AC...it won't do what you want. check out a PTAC (the unit hanging on every hotel wall)...it will heat and cool and pull humidity out and they are quiet. a refurbished unit is around $350 with a guarantee. email or call PTAC4Less in Knoxville...good people to deal with...

Recommendations on heating room in garage

an oil filled radiator heater will easily heat that small a space to a comfortable level. A good advantage is that it is controlled by an internal thermostat, so once you get it where you want it just let it run. Also...no open flame or wires, so no fire hazard. Highly recommended.

    Cordless tools in drawers?

I just use a 4 drawer vertical file cabinet like every office has; you could also use a lateral file. With all the office closings these should be cheap, I wouldn't pay over $20 for a good one. There's not much weight involved, so either unit should be fine for your intended use.

    Garage exhaust fan?

Be careful here...many furnace fans are wired for 220v or even 270v in some applications. This will render them useless for most residential uses which use 110-120v electrical.

Mov'n to the country. What size shop should I build?

Insulation is king. Plan on enough $$ to have the shop foam insulated, head to toe...everything, walls and roof all the way around. The outside wood furnace makes good sense, and your insurance man will appreciate your safety concerns...floor radiant heat is very efficient for a setup like...

    PTAC question

end of story...so here's what happened... I called a local HVAC repair company, and the guy checked air flow, output temp and some other stuff. Coils were clear and flowed well. turns out the unit was super low on freon, but a PTAC has no valve to recharge and anyway it used 2 generation old...

    PTAC question

I blew the coils out with a leaf blower...unit still installed in the wall. No change...I am still reading 81.5* coming out of the vent while set at full cool. outside temp is 98* Is my PTAC dead? heat works fine., fan is blowing just fine.

    PTAC question

I have a PTAC (hotel AC and heat unit) installed in my shop office. Lately the outside heat has been in the 90's and it seems like the PTAC just isn't keeping things cool. I only run it when I am present; probably 3 hours a day. It's about 79* when I first enter. I checked the output airflow...

    Smoke Detectors ?

Are smoke detectors advised? My shop is located 50 feet from the house. I don't store any flammables except what is in my riding mower and some spray cans of paint, WD-40 etc. No welding or grinding inside, all electric is code. Shop is stick built and well insulated. I don't have a smart...

Ceiling Fan on Corrugated Steel Ceiling

I had the same situation...solved it with a Home Depot 60" 3 blade garage fan (actually 2 of them for my 30 foot building). It comes with a 4 speed controller that mounts on the wall. cost was $49 about 10 years ago, probably $69 now, but it works really well for my purposes. I have not shut it...
