    Chopped 51 Merc Build

Thanks. I don’t post as much as I used to but I always plan on doing better. For anyone that does Instagram I do quite a bit better posting on that lately. @dukesfabncustoms. Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

The hammer has a jamb T-nut but that can be loosened to allow the hammer to raise up. The one I put a slip joint in and another jamb nut was to get into a tough spot. It works just fine with the extra joint. Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

    Chopped 51 Merc Build

Thanks. I have dreamed of a building like this for a long time also. I have big plans for the inside. I finally got my hands on my dads factory 65 ford crew cab. It is one of the very few first year crew cabs built in Detroit before they moved the operations to Canada. Wreck is a 1960...

The upper dies are held in by the lower die or sheet metal under it. Other then that they are free to fall out. Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

    Chopped 51 Merc Build

Thanks. I am anxious to get back to work on the Merc and COE. I can’t believe either one of them have been on the back burner this long. The last year I think I have been as busy as I have ever been. Now I have a few more projects ahead of them. I am just finishing up a pretty wild Model A that...

    Chopped 51 Merc Build

Glad all the timing worked out. Good to catch up and see all the work you have done on the party garage since the last time I visited. Roadster show was good. Brought home a nice 51 merc front bench seat for my merc. Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

Generally a flat upper die and a radius lower die that matches the contour of the panel. If it is a reverse curve then the radius die is on the top. Didn’t realize the video doesn’t work anymore. Will have to do another comparison video with both my homemade hammer and my Milwaukee. Sent from...

I took them to a local machine shop for heat treat. They are holding up great. I use whatever die fits the panel best on the spot weld or final weld.

I use many methods depending on the condition. My most used is an eight inch foam pad on a buffer with 80 grit paper for the big areas, the poly strip wheels in several configurations for the smaller hard to get areas and sand blasting (depending on location) for heavy pitted areas and really...

Thanks. I do still have the dent side. I had so many things going on that needed room so I took the dent side and van to Idaho for winter storage. Still haven’t picked them up. Hopefully will get them back in the next couple weeks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Finally assembled the Mack and have it ready to send down the road. The owner will bring the remaining trim pieces and emblems to install when he picks it up. Glad to see this thing go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No apology needed. I was just joking around. I knew what truck you thought it was. Back when he first built it, it happened all the time. To us it didn’t look anything like a Dodge. I used to think the Dodges were ugly compared to the Ford but taste changes with age (or maybe it’s just the eyes...

This one was a forest service truck. Was original paint and a very solid and straight truck when my dad got it. Was a 2wd, step side with an in-line six. We only seen one other in person prior to the internet so I wouldn’t say too typical in our parts of Idaho. It was in a salvage yard (had...
