    Vintage S-K Tools

Thanks! That actually puts it close to the 57-61 range of the Husky CS42 I purchased it with. I'm sure it's old hat around here, but it's still impressive to me that they're still selling the same tool 60+ years later.

    Dating a Husky CS 42?

Wow, that's something I've never seen before, and that I don't think even Alloy Artifacts has a picture of one. Thanks for the Era confirmation. Thanks. I was interested to know the implications of these terms on tools.

    Dating a Husky CS 42?

Just this one. Middle. Along with the SK 42470 and the Wright 3435 that came in the same lot.

Bought this 42470 today Is there any way to reliably date this? I gather it has been made for several decades.

    Dating a Husky CS 42?

Just picked up this "Husky CS42 Kilness Patent 1/2-Drive Ratchet". Alloy Artifacts ( http://alloy-artifacts.org/newbritain-nonebetter-p2.html ) says 1957-61. My Question for you tool sleuths is: Does the presence of "Patent Pending" but lack of Patent numbers suggest closer to '57 or...

Husky Tools. Same Number, Different Country of Origin?

Sorry for the late reply. I appreciate all the input folks. I suspect that it is indeed overseas manufacture, possibly with USA finish. It's got a good finish and feel. I'll probably hold onto it until something older and domestic comes my way. I actually just picked up a 1/2" Husky CS42...

Husky Tools. Same Number, Different Country of Origin?

I picked up a Husky 3/8 Ratchet and SAE set at a garage sale this weekend. There is no country of origin stamped so I put a few of the item numbers in. Got pictures of items that had the same number and size but also had USA Stamp that mine didn't. My question then is, are there Husky tools...

Creative uses and projects for metal card files?

Thanks folks. Good ideas here. It's gotten cold, so I'm probably going to wait till early spring to decide where to place these and how to use them. Something to look forward to! That is spectacular.

Creative uses and projects for metal card files?

The drawers aren't ideal for removal. 13x3 could work. I was thinking of a 5x7 or 6x6 arrangement. They have tabs to connect vertically, but maybe a bunch of thin cheap neodymium magnets in between to keep the columns stuck together.

Creative uses and projects for metal card files?

Anyone have any interesting or practical ideas for metal Card File drawers? I ask because I scooped up these today. Being card files, they have the annoying open drawer backs but that's easily remedied. Ideas, suggestions?

If you had to choose one of these two Hammers.....

Ha! Good to know that there are standards! 😁 Alas, I remain, as ever, an underachiever.

If you had to choose one of these two Hammers.....

Thanks for the suggestions. I've got carnauba, tung oil and possibly Danish oil and I'll read up on the others. What of those are good options if I don't plan on stripping the existing finish?

If you had to choose one of these two Hammers.....

Well, It's decided. The Plumb stays in the workshop alongside my trusty Californian. Going to clean off the rust and the sticker and treat the handle. Is paste wax a good choice? The Sears is either going in my van toolkit or in my desk drawer at work. Thanks again for all the input.

If you had to choose one of these two Hammers.....

Thanks for all the additional input. Much appreciated. As an additional bit of info, here's the hammer I'm comparing these to Craftsman 38162 23oz, 17 inches. My main and almost only claw hammer for nearly 25 years. I think it's in the "California Framer" family even without the curved...
