    Vise Info Thread

Cool find. Unfortunately I have not ever learned the meaning of the suffix. That vise pictured was local to me but not one I purchased. Was noting it here since it hadn’t yet been added to our spreadsheet of vise model info.

Shed Build 11'x8' / design advice

Case anyone interested to see how this has progressed,, Welp, it was a mad dash to get a shingles on this thing last year and the last roofing nail went in Nov 30. Spent the winter in prime and with two tarps tightly sealing the inner and outer door openings ... too cold to build the doors...

Picked up a Chas Parker 49X

Very nice user-grade vise. Top of the line version of their traditional fixed jaw designs. Intact original jaws, retainer collar and its mounting screw. Dead straight handle, fairly crisp slide. Those earlier ones required a notch to be cut into the workbench to mount. This gusseted design...

Craftsman Robo Grip Pliers - The Ideal Junk Drawer Tool

When I was growing up there was always a pair of RoboGrips with the mixed nuts around the holidays. They are particularly effective on those stubborn Brazil nuts.

    Channellock warranty and quality fail

Colleage picked up a Channellock pliers similar to OPs for his work tool cart a couple years ago and I was so notably surprised and disappointed as to still distinctly recall the asymmetrical and poorly mating jaws, coarse uneven grind, crude serrations, and rough action. Ordered the most...

Shed Build 11'x8' / design advice

Had some unexpected interruptions but do have a little progress. Unfortunately behind schedule but so it goes. Jacked up the right side of the deck and reset the back paver with more fill packed down. Now solid and level. Wavered on this but finally decided the door was too short and...

Shed Build 11'x8' / design advice

Some showers again in the morning but held off rest of the day, always looked threatening. The deck frame is tacked together. Level anywhere anyhow I put my 4' level. Diagonals are within 1/16". It is square respective to the garage within 1/8" and centered on the garage within 1/4", best I...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Have seen both black and light green Parkers in what appear to be original paint. Also feel that I've seen either a convincing pic of, or a reference to, dark green as well,... but can't recall exactly.

Shed Build 11'x8' / design advice

Appreciate every reply. All valuable. Would prefer larger overall dimensions and deeper soffits. But due to various considerations and limitations I am going to stick with existing plan on those points. Will just put simple vents on the gable ends. Morning was rainy but it did clear up and I...

Anyone using Ikea (Or similar) kitchen cabinets in their garages?

I picked up these eight new overhead cabinets from craigslist. They are fully plywood, softclose doors. Had numerous defects and were probably rejected by a contractor, so got them for a nice price. Don't know what I'd do without them.

Shed Build 11'x8' / design advice

Homemade swing out double door is exactly the plan there. Hadn't actually registered any concern over the frontmost floor joist because the load seems concentrated near the outer two skids, outside the door opening. That said, I'm with ya here. I will double up that joist.

Shed Build 11'x8' / design advice

It's getting colder and I'd like to start building this weekend. Behind on learning the calculations. The site has 5" of level gravel and corners staked out. My background is technical but I have zero building design experience. I do have some construction experience. Shed is 10'8"x 8'...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Speaking of Prentiss text... My two favorites are the graffitis and the late post-acquisition circles. Actually picked up one of ea. a little while back. This one is especially crisp and original (well, by my standards, haha)- And this is the first free-moving swivel jaw I've found in the...
