I've been happy with my harbor Freight unit for the past 4 years. I've done well over 100 sets of tires with it, and it has held up well. The secret to these machines is to bolt them down.
Here is a video of mine in action:
I know this is a somewhat old thread, but please don't waste that kind of money on a box like that. It's worth maybe $1500.00 max. The cheaper new 72 from HF is a much better deal and will last a lifetime in a non-pro setting. Heck, they last decades even in a pro type setting.
This one is out of date now, but the price is really decent for one.
The OTC Genisys and Genisys EVO had a big truck kit that had all the connectors and software to speak with big rigs up to at least 2015. All the way up to today on the generic side.
I actually tossed a bunch of cables from...
I still have two of the old Stinger XT with piggy back chargers. They are great flashlights that have really stood up to the test of time. I upgraded both of them from the old Xeon bulbs to LED with some aftermarket kit I bought online from Amazon. Here is a video I made on it. I've never felt...
I did.
I semi-retired from the automotive repair business in 2017 and downsized from a Montezuma elite 30X72 to a US General 22X56 box with two side lockers. It was a bit of an issue at first, but I slowly sold off the tools I knew I would no longer need to the next generation of techs...
I looked at Maxjax before deciding on a mid rise scissor lift from Harbor Freight. I'm only 1.2 years into ownership, but I haven't been disappointed by the purchase yet. The main selling point for me was the higher lift height the HF unit has. It's perfect for working under the car with a...
I'm more interested in the Fuel Injected Beetle! Those are rare to find these days and even more rare to find running. I always wondered why VW didn't go with CIS for the beetle as they sold is along side the CIS fuel injected Rabbits. While my experience with the FI on a Beetle is limited, I'm...
I've got a red button OTC Genisys as my personal scan tool for use at the shop that I work at.
Like you the shop has an older scan tool, but its got issues and hasn't been updated since 08!Makes it kind of hard to work on newer stuff. I picked up a Newer Genisys with 2013 coverage for Asian...
I always speak highly of the OTC Genisys and Genisys Evo. You can pick up a used one on Ebay, slap a new battery in it and upgrade the software for less than $500 and it will do everything you can imagine. Its a pro level scanner.
Here is a video on it.
What a tool....
I've worked in shops that are stacked with 10K snap-on boxes and shiny snap-on tools, and I've worked in shops full of 20 year old Sears boxes mixed in with Harbor Freight stuff.
I've got a secret to tell you. I made a ton of money at all of them. The Box NEVER makes the...
I'm still a fan.
I must have 10K or more in Craftsman tools from over the years, and anytime I see a sears still open I stop in and check them out. Last time I picked up some mini utility knife blades, and got a great snap ring plier for those stupid Kia external snap rings. I've been...
That depends.
Are you looking to buy new or used?
New, Hands down the Autel maxisys is the best scanner on the market for its price.
Used is a totally different story. The best bang for the buck on the used market right now is the OTC Genisys. It was also sold as the Matco Determinator...
No pictures on my hard drive, but here are two videos of my 1997 Craftsman "quiet glide"
Toolbox setup.
Used it professionally for about 8 years, then at the house for 6 then back at work for another 2 before being retired to the house for now. Still gets used every day!
Overall its a...
