    Big Grinder, Single Phase?

Although this seems very strange, I can tell you my 1/2 hp Baldor 7-inch grinder takes quite awhile to get up to speed. I generally give the wheel a spin by hand before I flip the power on to save time.

Rockwell 1" Sander Grinder Wheel Repair

I've owned several of those sanders, and have one on my bench. You can even remove the old urethane and replace it with masking tape---just remember to wrap it clockwise so it doesn't unravel.

    Widow maker

When I was in college and worked summers at a machine shop, we called an old geared drive drill press The Widow Maker. It would not stop for anything. It was much safer to use the ancient flat-belt drill press when reaming out 1-13/16" holes for Hendrickson truck motor mounts.

    Cutting diamond plate

More teeth the better, but you can use a cheap blade like Piranha or similar. I'm old and don't care to have things blow up on the table saw anymore, so I would sandwich the metal with scrap wood to ensure nothing goes crazy. It takes a bit more time, but you will get a cleaner cut even with a...

    Cutting diamond plate

If it's aluminum, rip it on a table saw

    Craftsman Vise model 506.51801

Many people look up "Columbian", see it is owned by Wilton's parent group, and claim it to be a "Wilton". Same nonsense with electric guitars: Calling Squier a Fender, an Epiphone a Gibson, a Sigma a Martin

    Quick action vise

Record (UK) made a series of them, but only slightly easier to find.

    Small drill press owners

My floor standing drill press didn't come with a table lift, and I explored using a trailer screw jack but ultimately made a motorized version.

Help me pick a floor jack.

I think that's the Model 90533, and it is GORGEOUS! Those bogie wheels look awesome. I did the same thing a few years ago and bought "my last jack" from Griot's Garage. No longer sold by them but same as OTC 5200: http://www.mile-x.com/otc-5200-floor-jack.aspx?gclid=CJGtz8qk9LwCFYZAMgodXxwAeQ...

    3/8" socket set

Wow, those really are good prices! The 20 pc metric standard 3/8 set is only $62, but out of stock. FWIW, you can still buy the Craftsman USA 17 pc set for $30 delivered: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291075436378?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 That is a great deal even if you...

    3/8" socket set

I think the Masterforce sockets are made by Allen, and Craftsman USA are made by Armstrong. I know that both Allen and Armstrong are part of the Apex Group, but I think they have separate factories and tooling.

    3/8" socket set

I had the same decision to make when I bought my cordless impact. I found that Armstrong and CM USA are the exact same sockets, so I bought CM USA impact sets on eBay for cheaper than Taiwanese stuff (Grey, Sunex, Gearwrench, etc). Nice stuff, and no regrets. In fact, like it so much I...

    Lowes vs. Home Depot?

I needed a new water and I didn't have a truck/van to buy one and dispose of the old one. As much as I hated the idea of paying someone to do a simple plumbing job, my heater was leaking bad, and my wife claimed she needed hot water. I checked models and prices at Lowes, HD, and several...

    Estate Sale 1940s Craftsman Finds

It IS outdated! I used a 1953 CM King-Seeley tilting arbor saw, with its godawful fence, for 30 years before moving up to a Unisaw w/Biesenmeyer. I kicked myself that I wasted all that time with a crappy saw when a great saw was within my reach. And I vastly enjoyed/improved my woodworking...
