    Using what you have

After living in one spot for 40 plus years, I had to move in order for the wife and I to help with caring for our twin grandsons. I left behind a 28’x40’ garage for a home in a restricted subdivision. The plus side was it was a fairly large lot and the home came with two garage spaces. My upper...

    My 2-Car Porcelain Tile Install....

That’s ok, only reason I asked is that I bought a house last year with just that configuration. The garage is approximately 22 x26 and the basement has 10” poured concrete walls. The first owner wanted a storm shelter so they used 12” steel I beams 3 foot on center and corrugated galvanized...

    My 2-Car Porcelain Tile Install....

That a big first time job! Hats off to you for tackling it. I have set a lot of tile over the last 25 years for myself and paying jobs for others but I have picked up some new ideas from this thread alone. I’m in the middle of a house refresh that involved tearing out old tile and backer board...

    My 2-Car Porcelain Tile Install....

I am intrigued by the use of a a 1/2” notched trowel and back buttering the tiles too. That sounds like an extraordinary amount of mortar. But I like learning new things. Are there special techniques or hurdles to look out for using this method?

Garage over basement? Does that mean steel beams and a metal pan to support the concrete?

Willing to pass wisdom onto my upcoming garage?

Floor drain system in the plan? I have a garage space in my basement that I plan to expand on in the near future and it does have a floor drain. I just bought the house and haven’t moved in yet so I haven’t given the drain a test to see how the water would flow to the drain. I’m hoping it works...

    Ceiling Vent

I would not use drywall for a shop garage ceiling. I would recommend a bi rib metal ceiling in white for light reflectivity. You can insulate detention the joist leaving an air gap at the top and then possibly install vent openings at either end of the joist run to get some cross ventilation .

NASA TECH garage door insulation ?

I have insulated doors from the factory which are probably just marginal in r value but better than nothing. My problem is I can see daylight all around the edges. Bought new exterior weatherstripping yesterday at Lowe’s but they didn’t have clay colored trim nails so now I have to find (new to...

Thinking of buying a new auto lift

My new to me home has a garage with a ceiling height that would accommodate a lift but my issue is that the garage floor was constructed over the basement with heavy steel beams, metal pan, and then the pour. Don’t know the thickness of the concrete at this point but the house is 20 years old...

Looking for garage work bench ideas

My new to me house came with a grimy steel work bench about 8’ wide. I think it is something I will want to keep and utilize but it will have to wait till spring to drag it out side and pressure wash then paint. I’d include pics but still too new to the forum.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Clean and organize. Moving out of a 28x40 detached garage to a house with two garages, one ground level one basement level, is presenting some challenges.

Well I spent 30 minutes making my first post and explaining my new situation with pictures got ready to post and I’m told no attachments until I have 5 posts. I just scraped the whole thing and for now I’ll just say hello from central Kentucky.
