    HF Portable Bandsaw or Bladerunner?

Howdy all, I'm just a hobbyist who likes to use a variety of materials for small projects and lately I've had the need to cut sheet and plate metal. Unfortunately, my budget is limited to under $200, so the only options I have are Rockwell's Bladerunner or the Portable Bandsaw from Harbor...

'Your career' thread----separate pages for each?

That's what I do, literally. Cleaned houses for a vacation rental company for the past 3 years and recently got bumped up to a team lead position. But that doesn't seem to be working out because the people in upper management are all bat **** crazy. :willy_nil Guess this old geezer will have to...

    Steel workbench for new garage.

Depends on how tall you are. I'm 6' and my bench is 38-1/2" high with a 30"x72" top. It's a matter of personal preference, so build it as big or small as you wish. Just make sure it's comfortable for you to work on. Well, what are you going to do if you need to move it? If it's all steel...

    Help picking drill press

Yep, me too. It's the best bang for the buck for a low to mid-range drill press. I needed something that would handle wood, plastic and metal and this machine has had no problem with any material I've run through it so far. I did have to return the first one I bought, due to a faulty quill, but...

16 Gauge Steel vs 1/16" Aluminum

That's pretty much the size I was shooting for, so using aluminum seemed to me like it would be okay. Actually, I was looking at some contemporary tackle boxes from Plano and Flambeau to see what was available on today's market. Looks like they favor plastic cantilevers, go figure. :dunno...

16 Gauge Steel vs 1/16" Aluminum

So I found some plans from 1959 to make a wooden tackle box, but it suggests 16 gauge steel for the tiny cantilevers that move the trays up and down. I would rather use 1/16" aluminum, since it would be easier to machine with the modest hobbyist tools I own (i.e. drill press, disc sander, etc.)...

    "Grip Tape" For Tools

I use the Self Bonding Super Tape from Harbor Freight. It's a little spendy, but I like that it has no adhesive (doesn't leave a sticky residue after a while) and stays put. The only downside is that you have to cut it off to remove it. Here's the link...

Anybody else have problems with ace spray paint?

Yep, ACE paints work best at 75 degrees (or higher) and 50% humidity (or lower). They're pretty finicky paints, but are very good when you get the application right. Hope that helps.

Agreed. These are two things that should never go together. :headscrat

How do you hang your wall cabinets?

+1 for the cleats, they will distribute the weight more evenly. Also, it might be a good idea to use some sort of anchor screw/bolt if you're fastening them to cinder block. All of my hanging cabinets and pegboards are on a cleat system and I've yet to have any problem with them. But they're...

husky bar stools at home depot

I bought 2 of them today and assembled one of them a few hours ago. They're around 28" tall and pretty sturdy. The tubing doesn't seem flimsy at all ( but I haven't measured the thickness), so I don't see why you couldn't throw some casters on if you wanted to. The only downside is the seat...

Delta contractor saw at Lowes any good?

There's a long discussion over at LumberJocks about it. That may shed some light on the subject. In short, those who have bought it seem to like it. Well I've owned the R4512 for over a year and built 11 heavy duty free-standing cabinets, a crosscut sled, 120' of french cleats and a wall...

Dude, you know that you can pick up a replacement slider at any fabric store, right? It isn't hard to do if you own a pair of needle nose pliers. ;)
