New epoxy coat floor- a few issues (pics included)

You may want to consider taking the coating back down in this area then, like Pauloman said, apply a skim coat of concrete mixed with a bonding agent.

    Clear Cloat Needed?

I'm for the clear coat... It makes a big difference as Legacy said, and it adds another layer of UV and friction protection.

This might give you some insights too: http://www.flooringforgarage.com/garage-floor-epoxy-flooring-option/ Oops - just realized that this thread is quite old... Sorry!

    Cleaning concrete

Honestly... I wouldn't spend much time or money on trying to clean this up with chemicals. Either rent an industrial floor sander (or hire someone who has one). From your photo, it looks like you'd have to do tons more of what you're already doing to make any real progress. I'd grind it down...

    Tile around floor drain -

I'm not a ceramic contractor, but have done some work in my own home... As the others have said, that is totally unacceptable work! I can't believe he would walk away from a job like that feeling like he did the right thing for you. I would ask him to redo the work. If I were in your...

going to epoxy, need more advice on the concrete before hand tho.

Wise words BME... Agreed! Prep is everything to getting an excellent finish. The bulk of your effort and time should be spent on the prep-work.

    Epoxy - Joint Question

It's a pain in the ****, but you may be able to trim away the exposed fiber just enough so it doesn't look like an unfinished edge... I was able to do this a couple of times, trimming enough so that it isn't an eyesore. It's not easy work though... ugh!

Doing my first floor, getting started and question.

Good call on the mid-dark grey color... I think it's best at hiding floor dirt and grime and will retain it's good looks longest.

    channeling water

I still believe it should be code to have a 2" pitch back-to-front on newly poured floors in northern climates... It would certainly help with puddling snow-melt and still be subtle enough a pitch that it would not cause other problems. Unfortunately, short of resurfacing your floor, I don't...

    First timer, have some questions

You'll get a decent shine initially from that product, but it seems to fade rapidly with some wear. If you're looking for the high-gloss, showroom shine (that lasts), you'll need to apply an additional clear coat as Cryptic said (over epoxy and flakes). Good luck - put up some photos when...

Epoxy Coat application - heat and dry time?

Falcon is right on... You should be fine so long as there is no remaining moisture at the surface of the concrete. Do check with the documentation that comes with your product.

    Expansion Cracks in floor

Just don't fill the cracks with mortar :bounce: I witnessed that once... The homeowner filled all joints with brick mortar than epoxied over everything. I'm sure it looked great (for about a week).
