    Siding over steel?

We just got good news. Because the rule was implemented on the day we applied we are grandfathered in and don't need to do anything about the side facing the street. It kind of ***** for anyone else, but at least they'll know it up front.

    Siding over steel?

Nothing has been built, I'm still working through approvals.

    Siding over steel?

Metal tubing. I'm having a pretty civilized conversation with the county so bringing this up at my next call is definitely on deck. Oddly enough I have some wainscoting built in already but just in terms of color. The "no metallic material" is really the killer but at least they only need it on...

    Siding over steel?

Here's a real kick in the pants. In the county I'm working to get my steel building approved, they just added code (last week) that any residential or accessory buildings facing a right of way can not have a metallic surface. Apparently residents have been complaining to the building folks that...

    Windows for tube steel

I have a quote from a guy who quoted me $4.2k for 9 single hung windows with installation. He asked about the building and when I described the 2x2 tubing he was very familiar and got specific for how the windows would need to be installed to make sure they didn't leak. I don't want to cheap...

    Windows for tube steel

Thanks, already set on sizes, and your recommendation is accounted for (y) . My question is more about the window and how it mounts to the wall/steel tube frame. Most everything I see for "residential" is designed to slide into and be attached to a wood framed wall. Windows for steel buildings...

    Windows for tube steel

I'm about done with county approvals for my 2x2 tube steel shop. Because I'm going to have a small apartment within, windows and doors throughout need to be residential grade. I've searched but have come up short, and Google gives me an absolute flood of sponsored ads that are zero help...

Steel building, is hiring my own crew worth it?

We were thinking to go high enough for upstairs living space but using wood frame. I'm not sure who I'd talk to about a structure like that (any ideas?). I also have to wonder what that cost differential would be. EDIT: Well, it took me just minutes to find someone close and with decent (and...

Steel building, is hiring my own crew worth it?

Good points, and I like the idea of checking on legal. We did visit the Chiefland location on a Sunday and were able to see and actually walk through all of the buildings, and most of the features we were looking for were there, installed and available to inspect first hand. Nice catch on on...

Steel building, is hiring my own crew worth it?

Thanks guys. I figured I'd get a good sanity check here and you delivered. I've got a good slab contractor on deck so I'll probably get things rolling soon. Again, the opinions are appreciated.

Steel building, is hiring my own crew worth it?

As I review posts here I figured I'd make one of my own. We're about to put a 40x45 shop building on a piece of property we own in central Florida. That's about as big as we can go. Our plan is to go high enough to put a second floor for a studio apt on one end (I'll do this myself later). I'll...
