What would you do different if you had to start again?

If there's one thing I could change it would probably have been to get a top box and roll cab a lot sooner than i did. I remember not too fondly the days of spending countless minutes going back and forth to get tools... Also I should have subscribed to the 'Buy Once, Buy Right' principle. But...

    Tools from the old world

My only wish is that I'd found this forum years ago. The amount of tools that have been thrown away because I didn't know what they were. These cutters currently reside in model making box:

exmaxima1 Very nice indeed, I also have a couple of old Record (Made in England) G-Clamps in the same colour. I'll see if i can find a date code or any markings on it, its due a strip and clean anyway. Along with the welder, trolley jack, toolbox drawer slides....

Thank you very much Diagnosis, your Wilton looks absolutely top drawer! The jaws are 4 1/4'' wide and it opens to to 6 1/2". There's still some original paint left on the sliding jaw! Which after 6 years of ownership I've only just noticed! And to think I was going to buy a brand new one...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Drivesitfar She's a beauty, its amazing how some tools are just a must. I never looked back after upgrading from a small rubbish one. It was mounted originally in that position to save space and for it to be one less thing to injured on! When I get round to re-modelling the bench I'll consider...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

My Record No. 23. Picked up a few years ago from Nottingham for £20. It had been sat out side and was as rusty as buggery and the mechanism was very stiff. A good brush out and grease was all it needed.

    Let's see your toolbox.

Snap On KRA3059 5 drawer top chest sat on a Kennedy 3 drawer roll cabinet. Small Engineer's latest Lego arrival (F150 Raptor set). We both win as I get to play with the Raptor and he gets to build Lego. The roll cab was given free but it needed some new wheels and a general tidy up. I plan to...

Strangest place you have found a tool?

But no doubt full of pearls of wisdom whilst you're doing the job. That one thing about none engineers/mechanics that really bugs me...

    Do not buy...

I wholeheartedly agree with you on this. You'll find stamped on the tool BGS Technik Germany. Whilst this does not explicitly say "made in Germany" it does imply the fact to the less well informed. I bought a pair of brake (flare nut) spanners. Even after applying some heat to the troublesome...

Have you ever seen a 9mm or 11mm flare nut?

Peugeots have 11mm flare nuts and 9mm bleed ******. That's if you can get them out without resorting to a) mile grips or b) making up a new brake line.

What Did You Purge In Your Workspace / Workshop Today?

Finally took all my used engine oil and scrap to be recycled. Threw away some cheap and nasty hex/spline/torx bits and some old nasty spanners. Using wife logic that means I can buy more expensive items. I'm on the slippery vintage Snap On collecting slope...
