    coolest tool on the planet.

I kinda have to agree with gibbon_guy, making something glow is gratifying! But not the coolest, my larger gear wrenches make me happy, those spots that aren't large enough for a socket can ****. Turn the wrench, flip it over, turn the wrench, flip it over - Ha HA! Not anymore!

Help to date/identify old Craftsman ratchet?

Thanks everyone, this is helpful! Spoke to a friend of my old man, and he thought that it was all gotten as a set. 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2" He also figured that Dad got it all shortly after he got his Cougar in '67 but coudn't say for sure. At least now I know what I'm collecting!

Help to date/identify old Craftsman ratchet?

Curious if anyone can help date and/or identify these. All that was recovered from my old man's toolbox other than some **** allen keys and a couple of files, after everthing was taken (Long story that I won't go into.) The 3/8 ratchet is used more than the marginal westward ratchet I have...

    3/8" air ratchet choice help

Well, I watched ebay for IR, BP, and SO air ratchets for a while, craigslist, asked around with friends, family, peers etc. and I got a new baby! My SO guy, always has a box near the front of his truck, with specials, old stock, tradeups, that sort of stuff. He had a couple of BP AT700F in the...

    3/8" air ratchet choice help

AirCat's not sold in this part of the world. I had never heard of them until reading here. Heard of Matco, but again not sold in this part of Canada. With shipping puts me too close to the cost, of new locally. The company I work for has pretty good buying power and I get pretty sweet...

How often would I use a wrench size over 1" ??

When I got my toolset and was sorting it out, I remember thinking I'll never use these Big F Wrenches! Its surprising how often I've used them in the last couple of months just wrenching on light trucks and cars. If you can put together a set from pawnshops for peanuts, probably worth it. If...

    3/8" air ratchet choice help

The snapon would be awesome, but out of budget for me at this point of my apprenticeship. My need list and wish lists are too big! Being $5K in the hole already for tools doesnt help either. I've had better experiences with Japan built over other Asian, and if good used or rebuilt Blue Point...

Oh, and how much will using non impact sockets with an air ratchet shorten their lifespan?

    3/8" air ratchet choice help

So doing reading here and elsewhere, a 3/8" air ratchet is my next tool purchase as an apprentice. As far as budget goes; I could go new in the $100 range, go used in the $50ish range, or new in that same range. If I stay in the $50 range I can finish my 3/8" sockets with a bit better quality...

    Howdy from Calgary

Howdy! Been lurking and reading here for a couple of weeks now. Gotta thing for old tools; which led me here. I've been in the automotive industry for a while on the management side, but only recently gone back to slingin wrenches. Started my apprenticeship again, and it's made me extremely...

    Magnetic socket trays?

I use these Lisle socket trays from SO for my 3/8" and 1/4" sockets in one thin drawer. I used to love them, but I've actually been looking for a different solution. The diameter for each socket doesn't work for everything, and they don't hold everything. I'm tempted with enough of these and...
