Can I add rigid foamboard over attic floor?

You have two vapor barriers, and the roofing science people say that's ok (first reference below). However, I'm not sold relative to your design as there's an "undrained" area between your two vapor barriers that could collect, trap moisture. Your interior vapor barrier facing the inside of...

    Milwaukee Power Tools Deal Permathread

I can't kill my M18 Milwaukee Drill -- it's seven years old, NOT Brushless, and I use it continuously wire-brushing rust off items..........replaced the chuck once and the whole shooting match might outlive me. Bought a Brushless M18 Milwaukee Drill two years ago thinking the above would die...

    Bosch vs Dewalt chop saw

I have both -- a 20-year-old Bosch Sliding Compound (10") and three DeWalt saws (one almost 20 years old (12"), the other two newer compound saws, pull more amps (power) and are dual beveled)--- both brands are super, you can't kill either. The old Bosch has made thousands and thousands of cuts...

    Spindle Puller Socket

Working on a very low production vehicle (W350 with Dana 60) and didn't want to break the stuck spindle or mess up the king pins trying -- this one apparently hasn't been off in 39 years. You can beat on the spindle nuts to dislodge, but risk damage. Elected to try a Spindle Nut Socket that...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Paint Shop

Currently DEFY semi-transparent, but I've been thru the ringer with most of them, even set up a test platform at the farm where I tested: Thompson's (garbage), Cabot (ok), Australian Timber Oil (semi-ok), Behr (ok to better than ok), TWP (runner up to DEFY), Sherwin-Williams (total garbage)...

40'x40' (cedar siding) w 12' overhead doors (height was req'd to paint orange, green and even yellow (JD 410E Backhoe) equipment -- I have two of these barns, one for mechanical and sheet metal work, this one is the "Paint Shop" -- homemade paint "booth" with 10-mil clear plastic walls and...

James Hardie plank lap siding over T1-11 and few other questions

I've been using LP Smartside lately (I buy it at Home Depot) - their 50-year warranty is hard to beat. In my personal experience It also installs quite a bit more easily than Hardie. https://todayshomeowner.com/smart-home/reviews/lp-smartside-vs-james-hardie/ Both LP SmartSide and James...

    Garage newbie

As an old "okie" myself (lived in OK City and Choctaw) I'd say it's really important to insulate your garage and I'd spend most of the money at the roof level since that's where the insulation problem is the biggest challenge (windows and doors are next). You have three options generally...

National Tool Warehouse (Platinum long box end ratcheting wrenches)

Complete garbage -- purchased a set of Platinum PLT-99650 Wratcheting wrenches -- the 13mm and 15mm wrench was broken right out of the box (skips) -- they have NO WARRANTY, only a BS contact page on ATD's website: https://atdtools.com/contact.php

Reptile enclosure builds + anything wood

I have many snakes too (copperheads, rattle snakes (including canebrake and diamondback) and cottonmouths) -- however; I don't need "enclosures", just my shotguns and a S&W Governor I wear when driving the tractors, doing work around the farm. I leave the black snakes, non-poisonous water...

    DIY Solar

Key to Solar installations is getting your optimization of the panels worked out -- I have a small prototype (ground mount) where I'm testing SolarEdge panel by panel optimizers against SMA's ShadeFix central optimizer. I'm a big fan of ground mount as you can adjust tilt thru the year to...

Looking for a Sealer/Densifier for Newly Poured Driveway

Any number of penetrating sealers for today's version of concrete should be "ok". Or alternatively use Roman Concrete (my "from Italy" father, a builder used it - not available in the US). Roman Concrete lasts 100s of years - uses seawater, volcanic ash.

    Find buried wiring without power

I've done it both ways --- (1) Rent the locating equipment, then dig only to find the private wire's old in need of replacement, was undersized in the first place or (2) trench (gets things done QUICKLY) / install new UF-B with higher AWG to provide future options. (2) often makes more sense.

    Insulating crawl space?

Mr Bill Conner zero'd in on it above --- the crawl space should be part of the "interior-conditioned" space. That design factor is what builders follow today.

    Insulating crawl space?

Just bought a renovation home (hobby of mine) where some sprayed foam chit (if you can believe it) between the floor joists in the crawl space -- talk about a nightmare - that crawlspace gets more water (trapped) than storm surge from many hurricanes. Earlier reno had the floor joist insulation...
