Working on a very low production vehicle (W350 with Dana 60) and didn't want to break the stuck spindle or mess up the king pins trying -- this one apparently hasn't been off in 39 years. You can beat on the spindle nuts to dislodge, but risk damage. Elected to try a Spindle Nut Socket that works with your typical slide hammer puller. I just obtained one from Sunex (Made in Taiwan - very good quality), but others are readily available from OTC, Snap On, etc.
These sockets are made to thread onto three different spindle diameters (mine happened to be 2") and work great.
