    Right now the main line comes from the meter and when it branches off to each appliance it goes through a regulator that looks like this: So I assume it's 2psi coming from the meter. Does that seem right?

    Hi guys, thanks for all your comments. I think it's clear I should just put the regulator at the end of the run. BTW I am in MN where it is OK to use copper for gas.

    Thanks for your comments. I tend to agree. Any thoughts if the other way would also work? Since I have to run 40 more feet of pipe, I may just run the larger 3/4 and try it with the regulator upstream. That way if I ever get a larger heater I would be sort of future proofing the gas line.
